- Hello everyone and thank you for joining us! We’re excited to be part of BrightTalk’s Private and Hybrid Cloud Summit and are looking forward to talking with you today. I’m sure most of you are feeling the shifts happening with applications and architecture --- from what most would consider to be a Traditional IT environment to some form of cloud. At Rackspace, we continually hear from customers who are interested in making the move, but have plenty of questions and don’t always know where to get started. Our discussion today is focused on a Rackspace customer, Troux Technologies, and their successful journey to an OpenStack-powered private and hybrid cloud. We are fortunate to have a member of the Troux team with us today who will share his first-hand experiences from this journey and will talk with us about how they are leveraging their hybrid architecture to power their business.Before we dive into the story, we’ll first introduce ourselves and provide you with some background on both Rackspace and Troux Technologies.My name is Christian Foster and I’ll play the role of Larry King today --- I’m a member of the Rackspace team and lead marketing for our private cloud business. Joining me today is Niki Acosta, a cloud evangelista and OpenStack guru at Rackspace --- and our featured guest star, Craig Dalton from Troux Technologies. I’ll turn it over to Niki and Craig so they can each give themselves a proper introduction.
- Thanks to you both. As a reminder to our audience, you can submit any questions you have during the webinar and we’ll do our best to answer them during the Q&A portion of this presentation.Now for a brief background about Rackspace. We are a global company of specialists who deliver Fanatical Support to customers across our hybrid portfolio. You’ll notice on the slide that we have customers in over 120 countries, we manage quite a few servers, we have 9 data centers throughout the globe and we serve 60% of the Fortune 100. Most importantly though --- we have over 5,000 employees known as Rackers whose mission is to help Rackspace become the world’s greatest service company.
- As Niki mentioned, our private cloud is a key component of our hybrid portfolio. Rackspace Private Cloud is powered by OpenStack and is unique to the Rackspace portfolio in that it can be deployed in a Rackspace data center OR on a customer’s premises. We’ve experienced a tremendous increase in demand for our private cloud over the past year --- specifically, customers are looking to take advantage of the cloud without sacrificing the performance, control and security of a dedicated environment. And many of them want to lower their costs by moving away from licensed software and expensive, specialized hardware. Finally, its important to note that you can download Rackspace Private Cloud software for free --- we are in the business of helping customers design, build, deploy and OPERATE their cloud --- essentially making SUPPORT our product.
- As we just discussed, customers are interested in private clouds for the performance, control and security that they offer. More importantly in some people’s minds though is the question “How are they using their private cloud?” The four most common use cases for our customers are: web-tier applications, content creation & delivery, software development lifecycle, and managing big data. For example, several of our customers are using private cloud for their test/dev purposes which provides their developers with their own instant-on and self-service environment while ensuring that the company’s secret sauce and sensitive data remains secure. And we’ll talk more about how Troux Technologies is using their private cloud in just a few minutes. I’m now going to turn it over to Craig who will provide you with some information about Troux Technologies.
