1. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL
GROUPS?
2. Gender stereotype
We decided to have a male and a female in
our film to reduce any discrimination and also
make it equal, however throughout the film
Brandon who plays the role of Adam in the film
seems to take over the spotlight more than
Karen, the female character. We decided that
when the power cut occurred that Adam the
male character would check it out; to show that
he has dominant personality and also he is the
man in the relationship.
3. Abilities
We tried to show that both sex’s are the
main characters in the film, however the
males role seem to take over and Adam
seems to be more in spotlight. This may
give the audience the Ideology and also
supports the stereotype that men have
more power and status than females. The
role was more concentrated on the male
character , for example he is the one who
is checking out what is going on, this
shows that his character is more of an
fearless man protecting his territory.
4. Camera angle/ shot movement and
position
The camera angles seemed to be positioned concentrated around
Adam ; the male character. The two close ups of both seem to show
different facial expression. Karen's reactions seems to be captured
in a different way to Adams. She seems to be more scared, where
as Adam fits the stereotype perfectly and looks like the strong
dominant boyfriend; going to check out what is happening. The
third picture shows the positioning between the two characters.
Adam is placed standing and Karen is positioned asleep and lower
than Adam, which can indicate the power and dominance in their
relationship.
5. Mise-en- scene
Costume: I came to the conclusion
that our costumes should be very
simple. For example, the male
character’s outfit was a chequered
pyjama bottoms, with a casual
jumper. Adam fits in the stereotype
that he is in charge and taking
authority. Karen’s attire is not
shown full, she is wearing a simple
white t shirt and this is only seen
when she is asking Adam “what's
going on?” this may indicate that
Adam is more important as he is
getting captured in shots in medium
/long shots.
6. SOUND
The diegetic sound that lamp makes when Adam tries
to turn it on, indicates that the lamp is not working, and
straight away Adam sighs, showing that males can be
very impatient and can get frustrated with little things.
7. Editing
We tried to use just the right amount of editing
so that our film would look naturalistic.
We used Match on action with the door handle
when Adam was going to check out the power
cut.
whilst recording our final film, we marked a line
on the angle that we was going to be shooting
from until the end of the 180-degree angle in
order to not cross the 180-degree line.
We also used a Rhythm editing of the alarm
clock.
