Next three stages of a multimedia project
-Analog is Uncompressed, this is the non-digital video camcorders, -Built in codec which is short for compressor/decompressor, itโs any technology for compressing and decompressing data. Can be implemented in software, hardware, or a combination of both. -The built in codec is a revolutionary concept that allows the sharpest picture quality as your computerโs DV โcodecโ recognize the format and import it to your computer without recompressing the data. This is ideal because recompressing the data will lower the quality. -When the video is sent via firewire cable into the video card, and onto the hard drive and nothing is done to the video, itโs merely a channel for transfer of data from tape to hard drive. This process is called โcapturingโ but it really just a data transfer, like copying media to a CD.
-What is fireware? Itโs how your digital camcorder and computer talk to each other. The need for quality codec is essential, thus Apple determined a specification for transferring digital data and submitted it to the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). What is Firewarewire, ilink, etc? This is a single-cable connection device that allows for picture, sound, timecode and other control data to be sent up and down one little cable. Which connects the camcorder and the computer. You will need to purchase one, most DV cameras to not come with one! Donโt try using the USB port. -Apple called it Firewire, Sony didnโt like the name so they called it i-Link โ itโs all the same thing so quit arguing with your brother inlaw about whether your Firewire is faster than his i-link, and that both of you are faster than your cousinโs OHCI. --There are typical two types of connections 4 pin and 6 pin. There can be several varieties of these types. 4 pin on one end for camcorder, 6 pin on the other for the cpu, see third paragraph on website. -How do you know if you have a Firewire card in your computer? Go to, start, control panel, system, hardware tab, device manager, if you see an IEEE 194 Host controllers, click on the plus sign to open them then you do, if not, you can add a card in the PMCIA slot. Show them what mine looks like in the laptop.
2 hard drives โ one for the digital video data, could be 2 in the chasis of the CPU, could be an external drive, dual-processor motherboards are available via Intel and AMD Look for plenty of hard drive storage capacity 80 GB minumum (this is the โfreeโ space after programs are installed). This becomes important when transferring data from the computer to the camcorder. The flow of data has to keep up with the computer and camera equipment. That data will continue to flow, but if it canโt keep up with the transfer, then you will end up with dropped frames, lost color or other quality issues. Thus stay away from pen drives or zip drives as storage devices because the throughput is too slow and will introduce too many errors. I am going to show you how EASY it is to create a sample movie in Movie Maker and then show you the high end videos and then show how to import existing video and edit it. Then show you how to capture video from camcorder. Backup Video- save it back to the video tape itself, saves room on the hard drive.
