9. Findings
TQM is an integrative philosophy of
management for continuous
improvement of the quality of products
and processes in a organization. At
BAT TQM is looked as a holistic
approach to long-term success that
views continuous improvement in all
aspects of an organization.
British American Tobacco uses two main
TQM Practices at there organization:
Quality circles
5 S programme.
10. Quality Circles @
Quality circle is a component of TQM for
improving quality.
The term quality circles derives from the concept
of PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) circles
developed by Dr. W. Edwards Deming.
A quality circle at BAT is composed of group
workers under the leadership of their
supervisor (each with a elected team leader),
who are trained to identify, analyze and solve
work-related problems and present their
solutions to management in order to improve
the performance of the organization, and
motivate and enrich the work of employees.
11. Quality circles at TQM are performed
by the - 6 teams working at different
projects as part of continuous
programme.
12. 5s @
BAT is also using 5s towards quality.
The Five S program focuses on
having visual order, organization,
cleanliness and standardization. The
results you can expect from a Five S
program are: improved profitability,
efficiency, service and safety.
13. Sort - the first step in making things
cleaned up and organized
Set In Order - organize, identify and
arrange everything in a work area
Shine - regular cleaning and
maintenance
Standardize - make it easy to maintain -
simplify and standardize
Sustain -maintaining what has been
accomplished.
For BAT 5s is also a part of their vision of
being world class.

16. Recommendation
From my point of view I would like to
say that the organization should
implement more plans for quality
improvement.
They should bring up continuous
improvement program.
They should also have customer
feedback approach in they system to
gain more in practicing Total Quality
Management.
17. Conclusion ,British
To conclude I like to say that
American Tobacco are well versed with
TQM approaches and practices at there
organization. Although being a subsidiary
company operating in the country they
are doing well in achieving a quality
standards in the country.
There workers and the managers of
each department are working hand in
hand to achieve the better quality at the
organization and by doing this they are
awarded with the business awards every
year.
