•ISO 9000 developed out of BS 5750 in 1979 through a standard published by British Standards Institution (BSI) and was initially used only in manufacturing industries
•The first quality standard for military procurement was established by Unites States, and so the history of ISO 9000 can be traced back to Mil-Q-9858a from 1959
•By 1962, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) developed its quality system requirements for suppliers
• Allied Quality Assurance Procedures (AQAP) specifications for the procurement of equipment's was accepted by North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in 1965

•During the 1970’s, the first UK Standard for quality assurance and guidelines for quality assurance was published by BSI, BS 9000 and BS 5179 respectively
•In 1979, BSI a series of standards for use by manufacturing companies which were enforced through assessments and audits called BS 5750
•ISO adopted the BS 5750 Standard without any alterations and published it under the name ISO 9000 in 1988
•ISO in 1994, revised the ISO 9000 Standard and proceeded to publishing it on a global scale
