On Tuesday 11th January, Norwood were lucky enough to have the author Eamonn Reilly
School closed: in to talk to Years 2 to 6. He was really entertaining, sharing some of his story ideas with
Good Friday 22nd April the children. He explained how he begins writing stories and how long the whole
Easter Monday 25th April process takes from beginning to end. One of his published books is also being made into
a film! How exciting is that! Let’s hope he visits again soon!

2. Getting to know our Governors
This week our reporters put their questions to
Q. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Russell Watkinson one of our Governors.
A. I enjoy Tae Kwon Do and help to run our local club, we did a
demonstration at last year’s Summer Fair

Q. What made you want to be a Governor of Norwood?
A. I have two children at Norwood, Katy in Year 4 and Henry in Year 2,
and I wanted the chance to be involved in their school to make sure that
they get the best possible start in education

Q. How much of your time is taken up by being a Governor?
A. We have a number of set meetings each term but there are other
times when we might wish to attend school. School events and
sometimes visiting classes to see how you are enjoying learning, you will
have to look out for me and say hello.

Young People Get Moving!
Working to get young people fit and healthy, the snow is not the only thing falling this Winter as a brand new healthy
lifestyle programme helps families drop the pounds.
Funded by NHS Sefton and delivered through the Sefton Leisure and Tourism Department’s Active Lifestyles team, the six
week healthy lifestyle programme targets young people aged between seven and sixteen years of age and their families.
Working on the principle that learning through fun activities provides an increased likelihood of adaptation;
the programme combines interactive learning with physical games to help attendees lose weight.
The MOVE IT programme has witnessed six courses being run throughout the borough since it commenced at the end of
the Summer months with a number of families already witnessing the benefits of attending the programme as one young
mum noted from Netherton,
“Trying to get the kids to eat healthy food can be quite difficult and it’s often easier to give them foods that you know they
will eat in their packed lunch and for their tea as it’s less trouble but it’s no good for them. It was because of this that we
decided to join in MOVE IT as it’s not just the kids who learn about healthy eating but us adults too. After joining together
we’ve become a healthier and active family it’s great!"
With current courses proving popular, a new range of sessions will be commencing in January at leisure centres in Sefton
including Dunes Splash World, Litherland Sports Park and Bootle Leisure Centre. If you would like more information or
