Shinewaves Competition
Last week’s competition was to paint, colour or shade the picture of ‘The Scream’ to create an atmosphere to match the
image. There were some very bold entries. The office staff helped me make a decision and the winner, from 5P, was
Keira Rimmer. Congratulations Keira.
Now to this week’s competition. May is the month when, each year, events and activities, that celebrate the power of
story, are promoted by Children's Book Groups across the country. So this week’s competition is for you to share a story
by writing a review of your favourite book. Tell me the name of the book and the author. Explain what the story is
about. Describe your favourite part. Explain why you think other children might enjoy it.
Visit: http://www.fcbg.org.uk/national-share-a-story-month/ to find out more about ‘Share a Story’ month.
Pop your review in the Shinewaves postbox with your name and class on the back by the morning of Tuesday 18th May

4. The ‘Bug Man’ visit to Yr R
The children in reception wrote a few sentences
to tell us about the bugs.
Charlie-I liked the stick insect, it could sit very
still and be camouflaged like a stick.
Sam-The spider was hairy and it had 8 legs.
David-The scorpion had claws, it tickled when I
held it.
Callum-The millipede walked on our carpet it
had 1003 legs.
Lewis-The crickets made a whistling sound, they
had long antennae.
Matthew-The snail came out its shell when it
was wet.
The ‘Bug Man’ visit to Yr 4
On Monday Mr Swales (otherwise known as
The Bug Man) came along to show the
children in reception and year 4 his fantastic
collection of bugs. The most popular bug was
probably the tarantula and everyone was very
impressed with size of the snail, it was the
largest one we had ever seen! Year 4 had a
lovely time and were amazed when the
crickets began to ‘sing’.

5. Book Club
Book Club trip to Broadhurst’s Bookshop
We had a long, tiring walk to town but it was worth
it for all the lovely books that we got. We went up
the ancient, magical stairs to an extraordinary
room that was like something out of Harry Potter.
Everyone was allowed to select their own book up
to the price of £6.99. We also got some free
goodies from the staff including a comic, a batty
bookmark and a bag. Special thanks to Gill and
Marie for all the goodies and the new books for our
school library. We would recommend that you go to
Broadhurst’s and see it for yourselves.
