Here are some projects students can do for The Great Gatsby

1. The Great Gatsby Individual Projects
You may choose any of the following projects to work on.
Pick a project that suits your attributes. You will be graded on the
following scale;
A+=100 A=95 B=85 C=75 D=65 E=59
This project in not due until April 26, but set aside enough time to
do this because we will be working on other projects as well.
1. Select a scene from the story you find especially vivid, such
as Gatsby’s murder or the drive through the valley of ashes.
Draw a picture of the scene then write a paragraph explaining
why you selected it. Next, design a new book jacket,
capturing what you feel are the dominant images of the book.
Write a paragraph explaining why you chose these images.
2. Write a eulogy that Nick could have delivered at Gatsby’s
funeral. This should be one page long single-spaced.
3. Writing as Daisy, send a letter to an advice columnist,
explaining your problems. Try to capture her tone as you
write. Then writing as the columnist, answer the letter,
suggesting a course of action Daisy might take. Should she
leave Tom for Gatsby? Should she stay with her husband?
Each letter should be half a page single-spaced.
4. The arresting imagery of the novel’s ending has sparked
controversy. Write an alternate ending that also serves to
summarize the novel’s themes. It needs to be at least two
pages double-spaced.
5. Doctor T.J. Eckleburg, the billboard for the Queen’s
occultist, is based on writer T. S. Elliot; the ash heap is an
allusion to Elliot’s famous 1921 poem The Waste Land. Read
this poem and explain in an essay how it relates to The Great
Gatsby. This assignment should be 2 pages long and double-
spaced.
