XY (meaning X of the Tayy tribe), formally X ibn Abdellah
ibn Sa'ad at-Y was a famous pre-Islamic (Jahiliyyah)
Arabian poet, and the father of the Sahaba Adi ibn X and
Safana bin X. Stories about his extreme generosity have
made him an icon to Arabs up till the present day, as in
the proverbial phrase "more generous than X“.
We, however, know him in a different context. Most of us
got to know X in 2003 and then again in 2013 (with a
slightly lower popularity)

it in 1912, it is an illustrated codex in an
unknown writing system. It is carbon-dated to

composed in Northern Italy during the

Victoria which won the James Tait Black
Memorial Prize. He also produced Eminent
Victorians, a work on four eminent
personalities of the Victorian era: Cardinal
Manning, Florence Nightingale, Thomas
Arnold and General Gordon. X was played by
Jonathan Pryce in the 1995 film Carrington,
for which we won the Best Actor award at
Cannes while the film won the Jury Prize.

• According to biblical accounts, X convinced her
husband to King Ahab to abandon Yahweh
worship and worship Baal and Asherah instead. X
is said to have persecuted prophets of Yahweh,
for which she was thrown out of the window by
members of her own court and her corpse left for
