6. About The Company The Essar Group was founded in 1969 by brothers Shri Shashi Ruia and Shri Ravi Ruia. The Essar Group began its operations with the construction of an outer breakwater in Chennai port. Essar has services sectors of Steel, Energy, Power, Communications, Shipping Ports & Logistics, and Construction. Essar employs more than 40,000 people across offices in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas. Essar was the India’s first private company to buy a tanker in 1976. Essar began its steelmaking business by setting up India’s first sponge iron plant in Hazira(Gujrat). Essar was the India’s first mobile phone service in Delhi (branded Essar Cellphone) with Swiss PTT as the joint venture partner.

ESSAR SHIPING PORTS & LOGISTICS Essar Shipping Ports & Logistics Ltd. is an end-to-end logistics provider with sea and surface transportation services, oilfield drilling services, dry and liquid terminals, tankage and associated pipelines. It provides complete supply chain management services to clients in oil & gas, steel and power generation industries. Essar Shipping Ports & logistics provides end-to-end solutions in marine transportation,working jointly with clients to provide cost optimal and integrated sea logistics solutions. The Ports & Terminals business is among India’s largest owners and operators of ports and terminal facilities. The operations include an oil terminal in Vadinar and bulk terminals in Hazira and Salaya, all in the state of Gujarat..

9. ESSAR PROJECTS Essar Projects is a 4,000 people strong global engineering procurement and construction company headquartered in Dubai. It has offices in India,China and the Czech Republic. It provides complete construction solutions under one roof. It operates through five main businesses. Project Management Consultants-An independent team of Project Management Consultants ensures compliance to processes in project execution.The team is also pitching for third party projects. Heavy Engineering Services-Has modern facilities for manufacturing pressure vessels, reactors, vacuum vessels, cranes, etc. The business is strategically located on the waterfront at Hazira on the west coast of India.

10. ESSAR POWER Essar Power has five power plants with a combined capacity of 1,200 MW. This includes two gas-based plants, of 500 MW and 515 MW capacities, and one liquid fuel based 32 MW plant in Hazira, a 120 MW co-generation plant in Vadinar and a 25 MW coal-based plant in Visakhapatnam. Work has started on three new plants that will take total capacity up to 6,000 MW. Essar Power is exploring opportunities for new projects based on thermal, wind and hydro energy. It is also committed to reducing emissions from its plants earning carbon credits. The 500 MW combined cycle power plant at Hazira is eligible for Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) under the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

11. ESSAR ENERGY Essar Oil operates a fully integrated oil company. Its assets include development rights in proven exploration blocks,a 10.5 MTPA refinery in the west coast of India and over 1,000 oil retail stations across India. Plans are under way to increase its exploration acreage in various parts of the globe,expand its refinery capacity to 34 MTPA and open 5,000 retail outlets. The Exploration and Production (E&P) business of the company has participating interests in several hydrocarbon blocks for exploration and production of Oil & Gas. This includes the Ratnaand R-Series blocks on Bombay High and an E&P block in Mehsana, Gujarat, which has currently started commercial production.

12. ESSAR COMMUNICATIONS Essar Communications operates in four business segments: Telecom, telecom retail, telecom infrastructure and Aegis Services. It has a joint venture with Vodafone, a chain of telecom retail outlets, a nationwide telecom tower network and a presence in IT enabled services. Essar Telecom Infrastructure Private Limited (ETIPL) is one of the largest independent telecom infrastructure service provisioning companies in the country. It builds telecom site infrastructure and shares it with multiple telecom operators in India. It has already set up over 3,500 towers in India, with plans to build 20,000 towers.

13. VODAFONE Vodafone Essar Ltd, a JV of Essar and UK-based Vodafone Group Plc, is India's 2nd largest GSM telephony provider, with over 50 million customers. When Vodafone acquired Hong Kong based Hutchison Whampoa's stake in the erstwhile Hutchison-Essar JV, the company was valued at USD 18.8 billion. Essar has 33% stake in the JV with Vodafone. Essar Telecom Infrastructure Private Ltd. Vodafone Essar in India is a subsidiary of Vodafone Group Plc and commenced operations in 1994 when its predecessor Hutchison Telecom acquired the cellular licence for Mumbai. Vodafone Essar now has operations in 21 circles with over 56.70 million customers*. Over the years, Vodafone Essar, under the Hutch brand, has been named the ‘Most Respected Telecom Company’, the ‘Best Mobile Service in the country’ and the ‘Most Creative and Most Effective Advertiser of the Year’.

14. THE MOBILE STORE Essar has launched India's first national chain of multi-brand and multi-service outlets in the telecom retail space. The MobileStore Ltd currently runs over 1,000 “The MobileStore” outlets. Over 2,500 stores outlets are expected across 650 cities.

15. ESSAR STEEL Essar Steel is a global producer of steel with a footprint covering India, Canada, USA, Middle East and Asia. It is a fully integrated flat carbon steel manufacturer--from iron ore to ready-to-market products. Its products find wide acceptance in highly discerning consumer sectors, such as automotive, white goods, construction, engineering and shipbuilding. It is India’s largest exporter of flat steel products & aims to reach 25 MTPA capacity by 2012 Essar Steel produces highly customised products catering to a variety of product segments and is India’s largest exporter of flat products to the highly demanding US and European markets, and to the growing markets of South East Asia and the Middle East.

17. AGROTECH Essar Agrotech Limited grows flowers, herbs and vegetables primarily for markets in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East. In 1994, the company was among the pioneers in the floriculture business when it started commercial production of the Dutch variety of roses. Today, it is a well known name that has established the Indus Fresh brand for Dutch roses and exotic vegetables.
