The top countries for active mining projects are South Africa, the United States, Peru, Chile, and Brazil. The most active commodities are iron, coal, gold, silver, and nickel. Most projects globally are still in the early exploration phases. Australia leads in mining investment and drilling activity over the past year and a half. Total global property transactions in mining reached $38.4 billion.
