3. IMPACTO DE LA MUTACIÓN DE UNA INDUSTRIA, UN MERCADO Y UN CONSUMO CAMBIOS EN LA PRÁCTICA CULTURAL ASUNTO: INDICIOS DE UN PROCESO DE TRANSFORMACIÓN DE LA LECTURA EN UN MEDIO AMBIENTE DIGITAL
4. HAY UN FENÓMENO DE EXPANSIÓN EN EL MUNDO DE LA LECTURA CANALES : Soportes Dispositivos Relación de consumo ACCESO : Número de practicantes Cantidad de textos accesibles Variedad
6. GENERALIZACIÓN DEL SOPORTE DIGITAL Simon & Schuster First quarter sales at Simon & Schuster fell 6.2% , to $151.7 million, as softness at retail from still cautious consumers drove down Sales of print books. Somewhat offsetting the decline in print was an $8.4 million increase in e-book and audio download sales, to $12 million , a figure that represents nearly 8% of total revenue. CEO Carolyn Reidy said she expects digital sales to represent 10% of S&S sales by the end of year. ( 233% increase ). Apple Apple today announced that it sold its one million iPad on Friday, just 28 days after its introduction on April 3rd. iPad users have already downloaded over 12 million apps from the App Store and over 1.5 million ebooks from the new iBookstore. Sony Enabling a revolution in digital reading, Sony today announced that as of May 5, book lovers and eBookworms have downloaded more than 10 million books from the Reader™ Store. Amazon Kindle owners are voracious readers who have already made dramatic changes in their book buying behavior. 64% now buy at least 15 Kindle Store ebooks a year (and that does not include free titles), and over half of those respondents buy at least 30 Kindle Store ebooks a year. While 61 percent used to buy 15 or more new print books a year (from Amazon or physical booksellers) before acquiring a Kindle, that number has declined to just 15% today . Recent controversies over book pricing have apparently helped Kindle owners become more educated and/or opinionated about key players' roles and tactics. Only 6 of 1,892 respondents said they had "never heard of" the Big Six publishers, 60% agreed strongly or somewhat with the statement that "publishers & Apple should be investigated for price-fixing collusion," and 93% agreed strongly or somewhat with the statement that "hardcovers are overpriced and ebooks should be much cheaper."
7. BEA : Role of libraries ?...responded by citing challenges they face in convincing some publishers that econtent in libraries is not a threat… in making discoverability via a library as good as the consumer experience … plans for ILS integration, which would allow patrons to buy and “rent” books from the same site , a branded extension of a catalog… will libraries pay fees akin to OverDrive ’s annual hosting and site construction fees? bills said Blio aimed to keep costs low rather than build a new platform for each library… will allow patrons to move content they download from the library to five different devices, while Copia plans to address migration issues so content is not lost as formats change... IPAD Experience : …I also love reading and checking something out. So I'm reading Wolf Hall (won the Booker, totally amazing), and am wondering what Wolsey actually looked like... and there's wikipedia with an image … Not having a problem with the weight, though others have mentioned it. I mostly read on the couch or in bed so I just pull up my knee and prop it …I'm finding that I read a lot more (which is staggering to me)…I'm a book publisher. I've been reading for a living for over 20 years. But there's lots of time when I could have been reading and didn't have a book immediately to hand and I now have my iPad immediately available…The "hands on“ experience I had with the iPad is pretty much the same as the experience I have with the iPhone: after about 15 minutes of use the hardware part of the device just steps in the shadow; all that's left is content and functionality, in your lap, at your fingertips. I found that an amazing experience. It's all about removing boundaries , I guess. …
Footballers pick books for boys Boys lag behind girls at school – and one reason is their resistance to reading. But Premier League footballers are coming to their rescue… Spurs goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini goes for Cirque du Freak by Darren Shan, not just because 'the writer is a massive Spurs fan‘. Teachers will nod glumly at today's news that boys don't want to read the books they're offered at school. In a new survey, a third of boys agreed with the statement "I can't find anything to read that interests me", according to the National Literacy Trust which questioned 17,089 pupils aged eight to 16. The problem with boys and schooling begins even earlier than that. A recent DCSF study of five-year-olds showed that while 42.8% of all boys had attained a good level of progress, 60.9% of all girls had done so – a gap of 18.1 percentage points. And the gender achievement gap is widening, particularly in socially disadvantaged communities. The National Literacy Trust report also found that a fifth (19.4%) of young people who read below the expected level for their age believe that "reading is more for girls than boys". By the time they're eight, and the girls are whizzing their way to Hogwarts via the giant bricks Harry Potter resides in, many boys have reached a decision: books are for girls, I'm going to play football.
