4. Who is LUNGevity? LUNGevity is the largest private funder of lung cancer research, and will grant up to $2 million in 2011 to lung cancer researchers focused in two areas, early detection and targeted therapies LUNGevity’s Lung Cancer Support Community is the largest online lung cancer network, providing user with an extensive message board, the latest lung cancer information, 24-hour support, a telephone buddy program, a card circle program, and notice of lung cancer event and advocacy opportunities

LUNGevity supports the largest national lung cancer grassroots events programs Other LUNGevity services to the lung cancer community include: LUNGevity Link UP, online advocacy training, and LUNGevity-GRACE’s Ask the Experts, an online Q&A forum and educational services to help interpret complex medical information and terminology

9. My Elevator Speech “Hi, my name is April Morey and I am one of the volunteer coordinators for the LUNGevity Breathe Deep 5k, benefiting Lung cancer. This is our first event in Wilmington and we are holding this walk because in October of last year I lost my sister to LC at the age of 37. LC is by far the least funded cancer, yet it kills twice as many people as breast cancer and more than twice as many men with prostate cancer. The five year survival rate is under 15%! I am working hard to honor my sister and others affected by LC in our community and I need your help. Would you consider being a sponsor / volunteer / walker?”

Show financial need (LUNGevity) “In 2011, LUNGevity raised enough money to fund up to $2 million in new research – but more than $12 million was requested!
