12. Truth and Holiness
Man tends by nature toward the truth. He is obliged to honor
and bear witness to it: "It is in accordance with their dignity
that all men, because they are persons . . . are both impelled
by their nature and bound by a moral obligation to seek the
truth, especially religious truth. They are also bound to
adhere to the truth once they come to know it and direct
their whole lives in accordance with the demands of truth.“

God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy

conform yourselves to this age but be transformed

what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing
and perfect.“ Romans 12:1-2

the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements -- surely you

what were its bases sunk, or who laid its
cornerstone, when the morning stars sang
together, and all the sons of God shouted for
joy? "Or who shut in the sea with doors, when it
burst forth from the womb; when I made clouds
its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling
band, and prescribed bounds for it, and set bars
and doors, and said, `Thus far shall you come,
and no farther, and here shall your proud waves
be stayed'? Job 38:4-11

16. Truth and Holiness
“Only in truth does charity shine
forth, only in truth can charity be
authentically lived…Without truth,
charity degenerates into
sentimentality. Love becomes an
empty shell, to be filled in an
arbitrary way. In a culture without
truth, this is the fatal risk facing
love.”
“Fidelity to man requires fidelity to
the truth, which alone is the
guarantee of freedom and of the
possibility of integral human
development.”

“I do not ask that you take them
out of the world but that you keep
them from the evil one. They do
not belong to the world any more
than I belong to the world.
Consecrate them in the truth. Your
word is truth. As you sent me into
the world, so I sent them into the
world. And I consecrate myself for
them, so that they also may be
consecrated in truth.” John 17:15-19.

Jesus then said to those Jews who believed in him,
"If you remain in my word, you will truly be my
disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth
will set you free." John 8:31-32

22. Relativism
Moral absolutism is Moral relativism is the view that
the meta-ethical view ethical standards, morality, and
that certain actions positions of right or wrong are
are absolutely right or culturally based and therefore subject
to a person's individual choice. We can
wrong. all decide what is right for ourselves.
You decide what's right for you, and I'll
decide what's right for me.

"The LORD God gave man this order: 'You are
free to eat from any of the trees of the garden
except the tree of knowledge of good and bad.
From that tree you shall not eat;
the moment you eat from
it you are surely doomed
to die.' " Genesis 2:16-17

24. Relativism
“Revelation teaches that the power to decide what is good
and what is evil does not belong to man, but to God alone.
The man is certainly free, inasmuch as he can understand
and accept God‟s commands. And he possesses an extremely
far-reaching freedom, since he can eat „of every tree of the
garden.‟ But his freedom is not unlimited: it must halt before
the „tree of the knowledge of good and evil,‟ for it is called to
accept the moral law given by God. In fact, human freedom
finds its authentic and complete fulfillment precisely in the
acceptance of that law. God, who alone is good, knows
perfectly what is good for man, and by virtue of his very love
proposes this good to man in the commandments. God‟s law
does not reduce, much less do away with human freedom;
rather, it protects and promotes that freedom."
Pope John Paul II‟s encyclical „Veritatis Splendor,‟ section 35.

the Thomas More Society, a Chicago-based

the Coalition for Life of Iowa it will
not receive nonprofit status unless the
Iowa pro-life organization promises to
limit its “picketing” and “protesting”
of Planned Parenthood.

27. Relativism in the Media
The media has "an obligation to the public," Archbishop Chaput stated, "a
duty to illuminate public discourse by presenting the facts of a story in
a full and truthful context, regardless of the intellectual fashions of
the moment.“
“Too many news professionals don’t live up to this standard. And some,
quite candidly, don’t seem to try.“
In the face of the media's failure to give a voice to the truth religion
offers, Archbishop Chaput urged the audience of Catholic business
professionals to "refuse to be stupid."
"We can decline to be sandbagged by our news establishment into thinking
that marriage for homosexual partners is inevitable or an obligation of
social justice; or that Islam and Christianity lead to pretty much the
same conclusions about freedom, society and the nature of the human
person; or that the abortion issue is somehow 'settled' when thousands of
unborn children continue to be legally killed everyday," he said.
As he brought his address to a close, Archbishop Chaput called for
Catholics to let their public moral witness "on abortion and every other
vital social issue" be formed "not by the nightly news, but by learning
and living an authentic Catholic faith.”

Our series of hidden camera investigations, collected by a team
led by Lila Rose in summer 2008, provide the public the inside
story about the abortion industry and its abuses across the
nation. Despite a consistent pattern of lawlessness and abuse,
Planned Parenthood receives over $320 million from taxpayers each
year. The tax-exempt "nonprofit" netted $100 million in net
income last year including revenue of over $100 million directly
from performing 289,000 abortions.

31. Offenses Against Truth
He becomes guilty of rash judgment who, even
tacitly, assumes as true, without sufficient
foundation, the moral fault of a neighbor;
He becomes guilty of detraction who, without
objectively valid reason, discloses another's faults
and failings to persons who did not know them;
He becomes guilty of calumny who, by remarks
contrary to the truth, harms the reputation of others
and gives occasion for false judgments concerning
them.
Boasting or bragging is an offense against truth.
