1. This is a Bluetooth selfie stick and it
works by pairing with your phone and
when you press the shutter button it
activates the camera shutter, taking a
picture. I have found that every
Bluetooth selfie stick works almost
identically, and this one works just like
the large majority of the others. It
pairs and connects with no issues and
the button on the handle operates the
remote shutter. It’s a
straightforward implementation that
bears no surprises.
2. There is a set of devices for which this
selfie stick will work. It operates correctly
with iPhones and with most Android phones
(there are some Android phones with which
this stick does not cooperate). It does not
work at all with Windows phones. Like
every other stick I have tried, when I pair it
to my Windows phone it pairs and connects
perfectly, but then disconnects after about
10 seconds. If I can get to the camera in
time before the disconnect, it still does not
operate the shutter. I was hopeful this
would be the stick that would work with my
Windows phone, but it is not.
3. In terms of physical build quality, this
is a solid and well-made stick. The shaft
employs a twist-and-lock mechanism to
extend the arm and lock it in place.
While most telescoping sticks do not
collapse on their own, the cheaper ones
will bend a bit under the weight of the
phone. This selfie stick is one that
benefits from this and the extended
arm is quite strong and holds weight
very well.
4. The twist-and-lock segments are generally
bigger and stronger than most of the
straight telescoping arms so as a result they
are stronger.
5. The harness is a collapsible bracket
that can be pulled open wider to
accommodate most phones. My
phone is relatively small and it fits just
fine; I do not have the largest phones
like the Galaxy Note or iPhone 6 Plus
so I cannot say they would fit but they
should. The bracket is removable and
can be replaced with a GoPro bracket
or other bracket of similar design.
6. The handle is a solid plastic assembly with
a plastic coating that makes it feel almost
velvety. Because it is a coating and not a
sleeve there is no problem with the sleeve
shifting to cover the buttons which is a
real problem on sticks of lesser build.
7. The selfie stick also comes with a USB
cable so you can charge it when
connected to your computer or to a USB
wall charger. After using it and draining
the battery life, I say it took about 2
hours for it to get a full charge again.
There's a little light that shows that it's
charging and once it's good to go the
light shuts off.
8. The base of the stick has a mounting
port where it can be put on a standard
tripod. This is handy if your phone has a
timer for the shutter and you want to
take a timed shot. Most selfie sticks I have
seen do not have this and it’s a nice
addition.
