2. The TajMahal was built between the period
of 1632-48.
It was built over a period of 22 years using
20,000 workers and over 1000 elephants.
It is located in Agra, by the river Yamuna in
India.
It is a mausoleum built in the memory of the
emperor Shah Jahan’s wife MumtazMahal.
3. Mostly white marble was used in the
construction.
For the decoration, they used agate,
bloodstone, turquoise and lots of other rare
materials.
5. A square platform, unequal octagon and a dome are part of the main
structure.
The four minarets (spires) are in the shape of a cylinder.
The garden is divided into four parts that are in rectangular shape.
6. The dome is about 35m.
The building is octagonal in shape and each
side is 55m.
The minarets are 40 m high and divided into
three parts. Above each is the balcony with a
chattri (kiosk).
The entire garden is about 300 square
meters.
7. The industries and the automobiles around
the Taj Mahal are releasing harmful
chemicals. This is affecting the white colour
of the marble.
When I visited the Taj Mahal, I noticed the
white colour of the Taj was getting
discoloured.
