Bastrop Economic Development engaged Sarah T.
Page Consulting, LLC to develop and implement an
Instagram photo walk.
The photo walk coincided with the First Friday Art
Walk on November 1, 2013.
All activities were designed to create awareness of
and participation in Bastrop’s shop local initiative –
Buy It In Bastrop.
3. The Goals
Create awareness of Bastrop’s “Buy It In
Bastrop” shop local initiative
Increase sales in local businesses during the
November-December timeframe, as well as
create steady gains in sales over time
4. The Event
On November 1, 2013, 7 “walkers” met at Art
Connections on Main Street to begin the photo
walk. 10 total Instagrammers participated.
Participants were asked to follow @BuyBastropTX
on Instagram and hashtag their photos with
#BuyItInBastrop.
The photo walk lasted from 5:30-8:30pm and
culminated at Baxter’s on Main with a photo
slideshow.
5. The Definitions
Media – the total number of photos in an Instagram
account
Followers – the total number of people/accounts an
Instagram user follows
Followings – the total number of people/accounts
following an Instagram user
# of Photos – the total number of photos taken by an
Instagram user during the photo walk
Reach – calculated by the number of photos taken by an
Instagram user during the photo walked multiplied by
their number of followers. Individual reach numbers are
added up to determine total reach
