Writing your application is one thing. Making the application to perform well is another. We usually forget there is somebody else on the other side of the screen, that becomes very frustrated and upset when he needs to wait until this one page finally loads. It requires a lot of experience to predict specific behaviour and to know what kind of things to avoid. And even with that there is so many different factors that can affect the end user experience. During this talk I will talk about tools and techniques you can use to measure and monitor your application performance.

Presented by Jan Galinski Zeebe is the new microservice orchestration engine by camunda. It allows clients to subscribe to tasks and track the completion and overall end-to-end progress of your business processes. It basically consists of a network of brokers and clients, which can be written in multiple languages. Spring Boot is a platform to create self-contained microservice on the JVM and supports integration in „cloud“ environments. Bringing those two ideas together seems like a natural fit. To simplify writing jvm-based zeebe-clients with spring boot, I set up the spring-zeebe extension, which brings the „everything just works“ feeling you expect from a spring boot starter to the zeebee world. But what if you run these spring boot clients in a cloud environment? The current broker-client architecture relies on host/port binding, a luxuary you might not have when your components are highly distributed and cannot see each other in the network. That’s where apache camel comes to the rescue. Camel is an enterprise integration solution that supports many messaging middlewares and frees your code from actually knowing if the communication will be tcp, jms, kafka or even file-based. With the camel-zeebe extension you can leverage these benefits and subscribe to arbitrary message channels to connect to the broker instead of relying on a tcp host/port connection. What happens in this talk: – short introduction to zeebe, spring boot, camel – life demo setting up broker/client with spring boot – life demo enhancing this approach with camel and rabbitMq

Understanding associated software licenses is non-negotiable before delivering application software to customers. However, tracking and managing the manifest of licenses associated with your application and associated dependencies is a time consuming, challenging and a never ending process. Grant is our latest open source tool aiding teams in tackling this complex license management problem. Grant allows users to list and examine existing licenses, using SBOMs generated from source code repositories or application container images. Users generate a report showing their compliance with a set policy without having to manually comb through licenses one by one. Dev teams assert and establish the license presence in the application, ship faster, and eliminate non compliant packages earlier. In this webinar, Dan Nurmi, Anchore CTO, and Christopher Phillips, Senior Software Engineer, will: Provide an overview of the software license landscape today Explain why license checks are so cumbersome and Give a Live demo how Grant improves and simplifies license check, And automates the process of generating license reports. www.anchore.com

Today’s cutting edge companies have software release cycles measured in days instead of months. This agility is enabled by the DevOps practice of continuous delivery, which automates building, testing, and deploying all code changes. This automation helps you catch bugs sooner and accelerates developer productivity. In this session, we’ll share best practices (including ones followed internally at Amazon) and how you can bring them to your company by using open source and AWS services. Boomerang is an open-source Real User Monitoring (RUM) JavaScript library used by thousands of websites to measure their visitor's experiences. The developers behind Boomerang take pride in building a reliable and performant third-party library that everyone can use without being concerned about its measurements affecting their site. We recently performed and shared an audit of Boomerang's performance, to help communicate its "cost of doing business", and in doing so we found several areas of code that we wanted to improve. We'll discuss how we performed the audit, some of the improvements we've made, how we're testing and validating our changes, and the real-time telemetry we capture for our library to ensure we're having as little of an impact as possible on the sites we're included on. Boomerang is an open-source Real User Monitoring (RUM) JavaScript library used by thousands of websites to measure their visitor's experiences. Boomerang runs on billions of page loads a day, either via the open-source library or as part of Akamai's mPulse RUM service. The developers behind Boomerang take pride in building a reliable and performant third-party library that everyone can use without being concerned about its measurements affecting their site. Recently, we performed and shared an audit of Boomerang's performance, to help communicate the "cost of doing business" of including Boomerang on a page while it takes its measurements. In doing the audit, we found several areas of code that we wanted to improve and have been making continuous improvements ever since. We've taken ideas and contributions from the OSS community, and have built a Performance Lab that helps "lock in" our improvements by continuously measuring the metrics that are important to us. We'll discuss how we performed the audit, some of the improvements we've made, how we're testing and validating our changes, and the real-time telemetry we capture on our library to ensure we're having as little of an impact as possible on the sites we're included on.

So, we wrote our app. Using Node.js, React, or Angular. And what's next? How your masterpiece can be shown to the entire Internet, or at least your mom, client, or friends. Probably you should find a DevOps, that will launch it for us... But what if I tell you, how to do it on your own? At this talk I'll show you 13 ways, how to launch your app on the Internet, what is the difference between them, and which method you should choose in a particular situation, from simple to complex, from free to expensive and robust.

The adoption of microservices add a new layer of complexity to an already complex application environment. When application issues arise, it becomes difficult to pinpoint the source and, too often, you find yourself in lengthy war rooms or assigning experts to triage every issue. As a result, brand loyalty, customer satisfaction and innovation are negatively impacted. The old approach to monitoring application performance just isn’t working. A new approach is needed. In this session we will discuss four areas that you should consider which will change the way you think about monitoring microservices
