2. 1950s
In the 1950’s Elvis Presley became famous and introduced the role of teenagers, this
was because the invention of rock and roll and the rebellious nature of teenagers .
Many parents disliked Elvis as he influenced there kids with his music and dancing.
Elvis's first film was called ‘Love me Tender’ it was the only film that his character was
killed on screen.
3. 1950s
John Hughes Birth – John Hughes was born in 1950, he was one of the major directors
that produced Teen Movies. The films he created were ‘Ferris Buellers Day off and
‘The Breakfast Club’.
4. 1960s
Teen Movies of the 60's – The 60’s was the main period for Teen Movies, the hippie
movement created emphasis on the hippie freedom and music. Films such as Wild
Bikini were released in this period but were restricted through censorship, the
producers had to be careful on what they could show.
5. 1970s
Teen Movies of the 70's – The 70’s introduced a new genres that included teenagers,
an example of these genres are, Teen Horror, Teen Comedy and Teen Romance
6. 1978
Grease Released – Grease is a well known film watched by all ages but its main
audience were teenagers, it was emphasised on high school life and teen romance.
7. 1980s
Teen Movies in the 80s – The 80s was the golden age for Teen Films, the films
emphasised on parents being clueless and suburb. Films released in this era are The
Breakfast Club, Girls Just Want To Have Fun and Pretty Pink.
8. 1990s
Teen Movies in the 90s – In the 90s the laws that restricted Teen films were les strict
which saw an increase in he number of teen films. The focus of the films were sex,
nudity and drugs. An excellent example of this would be American pie.
9. 2000
High School Musical – In the previous decade teen movies became more popular with
multiple films being released every year.
In the last decades, Teen movies have become more and more popular with several
being released every year. Although teen musicals had died down; 'High School
Musical, showed the return of this and became one of the most popular movie
franchises ever. Films such as Thirteen showed the increase in controversial themes.
10. 2007
Juno – Juno is an indie film that has quirky features to it, certain films have started to
do this in the last five years including Napoleon, Dynamite and Scott Pilgrim VS the
World. The film focuses on the unusual events that happens in high school in relation
to teenagers.
