3. INTRODUCTION
A garden is a planned space usually outdoors, set aside for the display
cultivation, and enjoyment of plants and other forms of nature. The garden can
incorporate both natural and man - made materials. The gardening is the activity
of growing and maintaining the garden. This work is done by an amateur or
professional gardener. There are different types of garden are present, according to
the type of plants present in garden. In this work different type of garden were
discussed.
4. DIFFERENT TYPE OF GARDEN
The etymology of the word gardening refers to enclosure. The word yard,
court, and latin hortus (meaning “garden” hence horticulture and orchard) are
cognates all referring to an enclosed space. The term “ garden” in British English
refers to a small enclosed area of land.
The garden can incorporate both natural and man - made materials. The most
common form today is known as residential garden, but the term garden has
traditionally been a more general one. Zoos which display wild animals in
simulated natural habitats were formerly called zoological gardens.
Western gardens are almost universally based on plants with garden often
signifying a shortened form of botanical garden.
Some gardens are for ornamental purposes only while some gardens also
produce food crops, sometimes in separate areas, or sometimes intermixed with the
ornamental plants . Food producing gardens are distinguished from farms by their.
Smaller scale , more labor-intensive methods , and their purpose. Flowering
gardens combine plants of different heights , colors, textures and fragrances to
create interest and delight the senses.
5. VEGETABLE GARDEN
A vegetable garden is a garden that exists to grow vegetables and other
plants useful for human consumption, in contrast to a flower garden that exists for
aesthetic purposes. It is a small scale forms of vegetable growing. A vegetable
graden typically includes a compost heap, and several plots or divided ares of
land, intended to grow one or two types of plants in each plot. Plots may also be
divided into rows with an assortment of vegetables grown in the different rows .It
is usually located to the rear of a property in the back yard. Many families have
home kitchen and vegetable gardens that they use to produce food. In world warII ,
many people had a garden called a ‘ Victory garden” which provided food and thus
freed resources for the war effort.
With worsening economic conditions and increased interest in organic and
sustainable living , many people are turning to vegetable gardening as a
supplement to their family’s diet. Food grown in the back yard consumes little if
any fuel for shipping or maintenance, and the grower can be sure of what exactly
was used to grow it. Organic horticulture, or organic gardening has become
increasingly popular for the modern home gardener. Plants grown in vegetable
gardens are, Tomato, Brinjal, curry leaf potato etc etc………….
6. ORNAMENTAL GARDEN
Ornamental gardens use plants that are designed more for their aesthetic
pleasure and appearance than for the production of crops or cooking
The practice of laying out ornamental gardens appears to be ancient.
Humans have long had a fondness for art and beautiful things , and once the basics
of agriculture had been mastered, landscaping was not far behind. In fact, such
gardens were even included in the seven wonders of the Ancient world , in the
form of the Hanging gardens of Babylon, which were allegedly designed for the
pleasure of a rulers wife.
Ornamental gardens often surround public building to make them more
visually interesting.
The layout of an ornamental garden can be incredibly varied, depending on
the climate the plants involved and the nature of the surrounding architecture.
Those at locations like versailles, for example ,are extremely formal and elegant,
with a complex layout of beds and paths that is often best viewed from a distance.
By contrast ,the ornamental garden that surrounds a small cottage may be done in a
more casual style.
While ornamental gardens are sometimes dismissed a frivolities with no
practical applications, they do actually serve a function beyond looking pretty.
Plants can help to regulate temperature, keeping a climate more temperate and
comfortable while acting as air scrubbers, removing pollution and keeping the air
fresh and also provide habit for bird, butterflies and other creatures.
