Notes Traveler on IBM i
■ For the most part, IBM i is like other platforms
─ Same configuration, log collect, troubleshooting procedures, etc.
─ Installation and setup is documented in the wiki.
– “Installing IBM Notes Traveler on IBM i”
■ Differences
─ Only 64 bit - no need to worry about 32 bit issues.
─ Only Derby or DB2 (MS SQL not supported.
─ DB2 is included in the platform, so not necessary to install separately.
- 9. 9 | © 2013 IBM Corporation
Domino Considerations
■ Domino and Traveler must be at same major version
─ If upgrading, must upgrade both.
■ Always recommend 64 bit Domino server
─ Domino 64 bit now available for Linux, so no reason to use 32 bit anymore.
■ It is not necessary to upgrade the template of the local Domino directory (names.nsf)
─ Traveler will run fine on an older names.nsf template, but some Traveler settings may not
be available if using Domino Policy documents from an older names.nsf templates.
■ Traveler security and policy settings for BlackBerry 10 and WP, Windows 8 Tablets, did NOT
make the 9.0 names.nsf template
─ Set these in the Traveler default settings and they will apply to customer's using Domino
Policies.
─ Once Domino releases a version with these included, customer can configure on a per
user basis.

Upgrade Considerations
■ PLAN FOR UPGRADE
■ Can not upgrade Windows 2003, SUSE 10 or Redhat 5 systems.
─ These setups will have to be moved or have the OS replaced.
─ In HA, can simply add new servers with updated OS levels and then retire old servers.
─ Wiki doc: “Moving IBM Notes Traveler to a new server”
■ Stand alone server upgrade considerations are similar to previous releases.
─ Will still see database defrag which could take 30 minutes or more for large systems.
─ Will see DB schema updates which could take a little while to complete.
─ Wiki doc: “Upgrade Considerations”
■ Wiki documentation improved
─ Moving to a new server
─ Upgrade considerations in general
─ Manual schema updates for an enterprise database
■ Upgrade of HA environment will require small service outage as 9.0 Traveler server will not be
able to communicate with pre 9.0 servers.

BlackBerry 10
■ There is no client software required. On device mail, calendar, and contacts applications
connect to IBM Notes Traveler through an Exchange ActiveSync account.
■ IBM Notes Traveler supports the following capabilities for BlackBerry 10:
─ Sync
─ Mail
─ Calendar
─ Contacts
─ Security (when BB10 registers to a BES10, Traveler security is not used)
■ Devices, together with the BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES10), use a different
architecture to access Domino (than prior BB phones):
─ BES 10 is not an application on Domino. (as were prior BES releases for IBM email)
─ Devices must use Notes Traveler for Domino PIM.
─ Devices can connect to Notes Traveler with or without a customer BES10 server (but data
path & device security will be different)

BlackBerry 10 – Known Limitations
■ Note: BB10 devices OS updates change these often, so check the Traveler product Wiki for
changes to limitations over time.
■ Email
─ When multiple accounts are configured on the device, a corporate directory lookup may
contact the wrong server.
─ Email deletes from the device may take several minutes to push to the server.
─ Any changes to draft emails on the device will be overwritten by changes from the server.
─ Filing email to a folder is not supported while offline.
─ No syncing of the Trash folder.
─ No Domino encrypted mail support.
■ Calendar
─ No support for viewing or accepting meeting invitations. Invitations viewed on device fail
with error "The calendar could not recognize this meeting invitation".
─ Adding or deleting attendees from a recurring meeting on the device is not supported.
─ Meeting reminder alerts may display even if Reminder field is set to No Reminder.

Monitoring the Server
■ Best way (currently) is to use the status command
─ From Domino console: tell traveler status
─ From Command line: nserver.exe -c “tell traveler status”
─ Output to a file: tell traveler -f “c:tempout.txt” status
■ Status command returns Green, Yellow or Red.
■ Stat: Status.State
■ If Yellow or Red, output includes the status factors causing the trigger.
─ EX: The number of active HTTP connections is 120% percent of the available HTTP
threads 400.
■ Status triggers include sync errors, memory, CPU, disk space, mail server issues
■ Always adding new status triggers. Other improvements planned.
■ Many trigger thresholds can be configured with NTS_STATUS_ notes.ini parameters.

Gathering Data for Support
■ Details per scenario in the wiki (server and device)
■ Besides logs, do not forget the Who/What/When details.
■ Server
─ When in doubt, use “tell traveler pmr” command.
– PMR command should be used even if FTP upload will fail. The generated zip file
can be uploaded later or separately.
– Be sure to use -s parameter for HA systems
• tell traveler -s * pmr <number>
─ Same steps for all server platforms
■ Device
─ Varies per device
