LOCATION
The Arrabida Natural Park is notable for its predominantly Mediterranean vegetation, including some unique species. The environmental wealth of
the area stretches out into the sea, where a marine reserve has been created with a great profusion of fish, sea urchins, starfish and sponges.
Its coast is a jagged outline of rocky outcrops and sandy beaches, the highlight of which is the beach of Portinho da Arrábida. Situated between the
mountain range’s highest point and the sea, this is a sheltered beach of white sand.

Situated on a peninsula on the south side of the River Sado, opposite the city
of Setúbal, with which there is a regular ferry link, Tróia still has important
Roman ruins, in particular a plant for salting fish (an important industrial
complex at the time). These remains are evidence of the Roman settlement
of Cetobriga, which was moved to the other side of the river and gave its
name to the city of Setúbal.
Tróia is nowadays a tourist resort with excellent sandy beaches 18 kms long
in all, plenty of hotel accommodation and a demanding golf course.
Praia da Comporta
Located on the southern tip of the Tróia Peninsula, the huge sandy extent of
Comporta Beach is a regular summer favourite, given good means of access
and plenty of parking space.
Forming part of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, Comporta Beach has been
well preserved with the original dune vegetation surviving along with the
adjoining pine forest. The sea is lively providing fine conditions for kite
surfing, with competitions regularly held here.

It is impossible to discuss Lisbon for any length of time without someone making the
comment - "ahhh, the Lisbon light..." And hardly surprisingly.
Lisbon was founded over 20 centuries ago, built on hills along the banks of the river

Located in the eastern part of Lisbon and boasting a vast riverfront, Parque das

LISBON FROM THE HILLS
If you travel to the top of Elevador de Santa Justa, you will have one of the most
beautiful views over Lisbon, taking in the Igreja do Carmo, the Baixa Pombalina,
Castelo de São Jorge and the River Tagus.
Make sure to take a trip up to Bairro Alto on the Elevador da Glória. At the top, there
is a magnificent view over the city from São Pedro de Alcântara.

PORTINHO DA ARRÁBIDA BEACH
Located within the Serra da Arrábida Natural Park, Portinho Beach is deemed
one of the prettiest in all of Portugal. Its fine white sands and the various tones
of blue of these clear waters contrast with the deep greens of the hills to create
a beautiful scenario that is perfect for contemplative relaxation.
This calm bay is good for diving to enjoy the diverse marine life although fishing
itself is forbidden given that the seabed itself is included in the Natural Park’s
protected area.
SADO ESTUARY
The river’s estuary commences close to Alcácer do Sal, a highly fertile humid
zone. where the landscape is marked by rice fields, cultivated in platforms, and
nests of white storks, perched on top of church towers or electricity pylons.
This elegant bird always chooses the highest places in order to build its nests
and is one or 200 bird species that inhabit the Sado Estuary, which has been
declared a Nature Reserve and a zone of special protection in order to protect
the species.
The most friendly local inhabitants and symbol of the Nature Reserve are the
dolphins. It's rare to find them in Europe, freely swimming in their natural
habitat, but there is an important colony of dolphins in the River Sado, who are
known locally as “roazes-corvineiros” (gnawers of corvine fishing nets), because
they gnaw at fishing nets and primarily eat corvina sea fish. Don't miss the
opportunity to go on a boat trip and observe several examples of these playful
mammals.

SESIMBRA
Sesimbra is a picturesque fishing town set in a sheltered bay. Sesimbra's wealth
of seafood persuaded the population to go down the hill and explore the
neighbourhood, turning this town into one of the region's main fishing ports.
In the surrounding area, the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel is
worth a visit, and on the cliff next to it one can see dinosaur footprints.
The excellent local cuisine, specialising in shellfish and fresh fish, deserves a
special mention, and this can be sampled in the numerous local restaurants.
TRÓIA GOLF
Considered one of the best golfing layouts in Portugal, Tróia represents an
exciting challenge for any lover of the sport and has already hosted the
Portuguese Open.
Tróia is a magnificent links course set in a region of great natural beauty
between the ocean and the estuary of the River Sado, with the mountains of
Arrábida in the background. Surrounded by pine-trees, beaches and the sea, it
makes the most of the natural ups and downs of the sand dunes and the
legendary Robert Trent Jones Snr used the course´s main natural feature (sand)
to form the major obstacle, considering hole number 3 here to be amongst the
best par 4´s he has ever designed and including it amongst the 18 holes of his
ideal course.
