4. BACKGROUND
 Ewing Marion Kauffman was born on a farm in
garden city, Missouri on September 21, 1916.
 He is an American pharmaceutical entrepreneur,
philanthropist, and Major League Baseball owner.
 Ewing Marion Kauffman moved to Kansas city with
his family when he was eight years old and he grew up
there.

5.  He was the owner of the Kansas City Royals baseball
team, and the stadium in Kansas City, Missouri was
renamed Kauffman Stadium.
 His wife is Muriel Kauffman.
 He died in August 1, 1993.

6.  Early childhood experience centered on door to door
sales.
 Since his family did not have a lot of money.
 Kauffman would sell 36 dozen eggs collected from
the farm.
 His mother was very encouraging during his school
years.
 He was bedridden for a year at age 11 with a heart
ailment, during which he read as many as 40 to 50
books a month.

12.  Kauffman was an Eagle Scout and as an adult was
awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.
After serving in the United States Navy in World War II,
Kauffman worked as a pharmaceutical salesman until
1950, when he formed Marion Laboratories
 Established the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation–
support youth development and entrepreneurship.
 Ewing Kauffman established the Kansas City Royals
 Man of the Year in 1973
 Honored as the 16th point of light in President George
Bush's "Thousand Points of Light" tribute

13.  Good Neighbor Award from the Harry S. Truman
Foundation
 Southern Christian Leadership Award for his company's
support of civil rights
 Kauffman has similarly funded ―All Terrain Brain,‖ a
multimedia project aimed at getting 8- to 12-year-olds
to adopt entrepreneurial habits—thinking creatively,
taking responsibility, embracing opportunities, solving
problems, and dreaming big.
