Parkinson disease
Parkinson disease is diagnosed in more than 500,000 Americans each year. This disease is known
for centuries but yet it is incurable.
1. Identify the parts of the nervous system that are active in your example:
The Parkinson occurs when substantin nigra cells die. Substantin nigra cells are located
underneath the basal ganglia which is located in base of a forebrain. These cells are black and
that is why we can detect is someone died from Parkinson disease or is she/he was sick form
that disease, that is because the substantin nigra cells have neromelanin. We all lose some of
the substanitin nigra cells in our life (6-7%) but that isn’t enough to have Parkinson disease all
do it can grows your chance to have Parkinson. So if we lose about 80% of substantin nigra
cells we will get Parkinson disease. That is because substantin nigra cells are producing
dopamine which is hormone and neurotransmitter. The lose dopamine will affect the direct
pathway in our basal ganglia so it will affect striatum. Which I will be talking about in the
next segment of this essay.
Picture of the base of the forebrain.
Picture of Striatum.
2. Describe the functions of the nervous system that are apparent and/or impaired in your
example.
So the lack of dopamine will affect basal ganglia direct pathway. So as we know basal ganglia
is there to help us to make choices so we call that action selector and when we select our
action we must inhibit Pallidum (second part of the basal ganglia) because Palidum is
inhibiting other moves and action that are not happening writhe now. And then that move will
occur without some other moves that we didn’t wish to do. And this process is called direct
pathway and in this pathway we have three major factors Cerebral cortex, Striatum and
Pallidum. So if we have problem with Striatum we will have Parkinson disease. If we have
problem with Pallidum we will have something that is called hemiballismus. And the effect of
things that I wrote about will produce that the affected person is going to have difficulties to
make move. In some cases that I read about for some people it would take some second only
to move arm or leg. But unfortunately that are not all symptom s that will occur. Dopamine is
also there to help us do some multitasking like teeth brushing and etc. Other symptoms are:
fatigue, dysphagia (people are unable to swallow), monotonic speech, hypomimia (like a mask
face), decrease arm swing, posture problems and much more.
