Today’s Agenda:  Pew Center for Arts & Heritage  PCMI Overview  PCMI Goals  PCMI Grants Planning Grants Catalyst Grants Professional Development  Organizational Assessments  Online LOI Form  Next Steps/Process  Questions
PCAH Purpose The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage is committed to an arts and heritage ecology that engages broad and diverse communities and is distinguished by excellence, imagination, and courage.  The Center seeks to catalyze vision.
PCMI Overview Initiative of The Pew Charitable Trusts, and part of The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. Has awarded over $7.5 million to 95 organizations over 9 years. Promotes organizational change that supports program excellence and effective audience engagement. Collaborates closely with PCAH Artistic Initiatives.  Works through panel-adjudicated grants, professional development grants, organizational assessments, and public programming.
PCMI Goals PURPOSE:  Support organizational development that propels excellence and continuous improvement in program and audience engagement. PCMI assists organizations to: Plan organizational strategies that will strengthen program and audience engagement. Implement well-conceived organizational plans to strengthen program and audience engagement. Engage in reflective practices that will lead to stronger programming and operations.
PCMI Priorities Support organizational change that will catalyze improvements in program quality and audience engagement. Integrate with PCAH Artistic Initiatives. Encourage “catalytic” and innovative strategies. Bridge program, management and audience “silos.”     How will the proposed planning or organizational change enhance your overall programmatic excellence and audience engagement?
Planning Grants GOAL:  To support organizational planning that will strengthen overall program quality and audience engagement. Eligibility:  Organizations that have received at least 1 grant from an Artistic Initiative, or support from PCLP, in the last 3 years. Grants:  Up to $30,000 over one year. Criteria:  Quality of proposal Potential impact Panel-adjudicated. Online LOI by October 22, 2010.
Catalyst Grants GOAL:  To support organizational development initiatives that will strengthen program quality and audience engagement, and have potential to transform organizational capacity. Eligibility:  Organizations that have received at least 2 grants from the Artistic Initiatives in the last 5 years, or are current  PCLP grantees. Grants:  Up to $150,000 over 2 years. Criteria: Quality of proposal Ability to carry out project Potential impact Panel-adjudicated. Online LOI by October 22, 2010.
Professional Development Grants GOAL:  To build organizational skills that will strengthen program    		 quality and audience engagement. Eligibility:  All arts and heritage 501c3’s in the region. Grants:  Up to $10,000 in one calendar year. Criteria:  Clarity of need (“why this, why now?”) Appropriateness of project to achieve goal  Likelihood of impact on organization and programs  Quality of consultant or training program Rolling deadline, quick turnaround (6-8 weeks) Online application form
Please Note Staff positions: Staff costs will be permitted where they will be catalytic.  For new or upgraded positions, applicant must define term of position, qualifications, and – if appropriate – how position will be sustained after PCMI grant. Discuss requests for staff support with PCMI staff prior to application. Ineligible costs: Permanent equipment Capital improvements Debt reduction Endowments
Organizational Assessment GOAL:  To support organizational self-assessments that address program quality, audience engagement and management capacity. Eligibility:  All arts and heritage 501c3 organizations in the region. Not a requirement for PCMI eligibility. Organizations may use PCMI’s assessment tool or another tool that examines program quality, audiences and management strength. PCMI will work with each organization to design the appropriate assessment process.
Online LOI All Planning and Catalyst grant applications must be submitted online.
