[play this slide, it contains more then the eye can see] Information comes to us in different forms, uptill now seperated (TV, printed media, internet). And a number of parties play a role in getting the information over that medium to you. Bigger parties try to own the whole vertical chain (from content creator, to editing and enhancement to distribution). However we as research networks and institutions for higher education and research have to watch it in a different way: horizontal integration. We have the content creators, this content should be enhanced, transcoded (made available in other formats) and finally distributed to our customers/users. It doesn’t matter anymore in what form content is created and in what form it is delivered. The client should have the choice what medium to use to access the content in whatever format he/she wants at that moment. Having a good content management system is essential. Doing media delivery (streaming) in different formats is too.
