networking site

6. 83% Look for health or medical
information
82% Search for a map or location

78% service or product the are
thinking of buying
76% Get news
8. Sharing is bigger than fans, friends and
followers. Sharing generates almost half of the
traffic for websites and brands that is created
by search — 10% of website visits come from
sharing. Sharing also accounts for 31% of
referral traffic.
9. Everyone who shares is an influencer if the subject
is important to him or her. Instead of one person
being universally influential on a wide range of topics,
the study found that many people are influential on
only one or two topics.
10. Sharing is about scale, not virality. Shared
links are, on average, across all sharing
channels, clicked on 4.9 times each, so
content shared by large groups of people
reach a wider audience than content passed
along from others.
26. Mobile Right Now
IBM’s Coremetrics Benchmark is releasing data
around holiday shopping trends we can expect over

season. – TechCrunch 11/4/2011

Close your eyes and lets take a trip in the wayback machine…
Newspapers used to be THE way to reach people. But over the past 70 years, that has changed.
Part of what caused this massive change is when “we the people” started sharing on the web, where everyone could contribute.
People can now do things like “live tweet” the takedown of enemy #1 half way around the world. I shiver to think of what would have happened on D-Day in 1944 if some Frenchman tweeted, “What are all those ships doing on the horizon?”
In SEOmoz’s ranking factors report, Facebook was a highly correlated way to boost your results.
The future is mobile.
Pre-iPhone mobile sites were like the 1994 web – BORING!
Mobile is not an aberration, it’s growing and so are it’s advanced features.
Smartphone adoption is growing like crazy, and the end is nowhere in sight.
Placecast entered into a deal with 02 in October 2010, so customers with 02 would receive what’s known as ShopAlerts™ via text message. Starbucks and L’Oréal were among the first businesses to sign up to 02’s service. Indeed, 02 was the first UK mobile operator to provide location-based mobile marketing on a large scale. And now, Placecast has entered into a similar deal with US mobile network AT&T, with New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Los Angeles all hosting geo-fenced retail areas.
What's different now is that Square has updated Card Case to recognize when a user is within 100 meters of a business using iOS 5's new geofencing abilities. That means that when a user has turned on the "auto open" tabs feature for a business within the Card Case app, a tab for purchases is opened every time they walk into a business without them ever having to open up the app itself.
