2. Abstract
The study of deodorizing trash cover by using
charcoal is scientific project of Mathayomsuksa 4 at
Srisawatwittayakarn School , 2010. The objective of
the study focus on using charcoal to solve the
problem of unpleasant smell in the trash. The study
compared three trashes which were used different
types of charcoal. Data collection was carried out by
experiment,
3. analysis and data were processed with descriptive
statistic; frequencies, means and percentages. The
result revealed that: using small pieces of charcoal for
making the trash lid in the most effective on stopping
unpleasant smell.
4. For Further study in future development, the study
should investigate other kinds of materials used in the
experiments and various methods of the experiment
should be used.

6. Significance
Nowadays garbage are scattered all over the area
such as public park, school, street. It usually has
problem of bad smell in the trash that create a
nuisance to people.
This study hoped to help solving this problem by
finding a new materials to make garbage cover ,and
we found that charcoal has ability to drain smell ,It
also has a low cost and it is easy to find, we made the
trash lid by using charcoal and the materials helps
solving the problem effectively.
7. Objective of the study
- Decrease garbage smell by bin lid.
- To learn surface area of charcoal affect to smell
draining.
- To compare kind of charcoals which is the best
smell draining.
8. Hypothesis
If surface area of charcoal does not affect to smell
draining so every charcoal garbage smell ability are
same.
If surface area of charcoal affect to smell draining so
charcoals are the best to drain garbage smell.
If surface area of charcoal affect to smell draining so
charcoal dusts are the best to drain garbage smell.
If surface area of charcoal affect to smell draining so
pieces of charcoal are the best to drain garbage smell.
9. Related variable
Variables – deodorize trash cover.
Dependent variable – ability to drain garbage smell of
three kind of charcoal.
Control variable – quantity of charcoal, kind of
charcoal, trash cover size, bin size
10. Scope of the study
To compare drain garbage smell ability of charcoal
sticks, pieces of charcoal and charcoal powders.
Tested with same garbage. Experiments was
conducted at Srisawatwittakarn school between
August 13 – 16 2010. There were ten people to smell
test.
11. Chapter 1
Importance
Nowadays charcoals are material that help people
many ways for example use in household (such as
absorb humidity, to make fire, decrease disease), use
in industry (such as product chemical, wastewater
treatment), in agriculture (such as improve ground,
maintain productivity, improve quality of water).
Charcoals are very useful than we known but people
ignore charcoal, do not known about useful of
charcoal. Authors made deodorizing trash cover that
use charcoal to absorb bad smell to see the
importance of charcoal and useful of charcoal to use
in other ways.
12. Chapter 2
How to Invent the trash cover
Equipment
Bamboo strips 4 lines
Grill 3 items
Needle and thread set 1 set
Net 3 pieces
Piece of cloth 1 piece
White cloth 1 piece
Charcoal 300 grams
Charcoal dust 300 grams
Pieces of charcoal 300 grams
13. How to Invent the trash cover
1.Weave the bamboo strips
2.Sewing bamboo strips to trash cover and sewing a
cloth with cover.
3.Put charcoals on grill and sewing grill suture net.
Cover charcoal with white cloth and hang it measure
top of trash cover and the grill.
4.Do the same that have three covers. One put
charcoal sticks. One put charcoal powder. One put
piece of charcoal.

Equipments
Scale
Measuring Cup
Ladle
Knife
Black bag
Garbage
15. Ingredient of garbage (for examples)
Piece of morning glory 90 grams
Piece of cabbage 90 grams
Piece of prang (local vegetable) 90 grams
Piece of Kra-taun (local fruit) shell 150 grams
Piece of Kra-taun (local fruit) 200 grams
Water 250 milliliter
Yoghurt 420 milliliter
16. How to do
1.Cut vegetable into small piece.
2.Weight vegetable the same.
3.Divide vegetable into 3 black bags same type and
weight.
4.Mix all ingredients.
5.Close bags for 24 hours.
17. How to do

19. Chapter 4
The finding of the study
The study found that the levels of smell in each
garbage which was covered by different kinds of lids
various according to the material we used. (the
charcoal in the first bin, the small piece charcoal in
the second bin, and the dust of charcoal in the third
bin) The results that we found are as follow;
20. The finding of the study
On the first day, there is no difference of the level of
smell among the three bins. The smell in three bins
reaches the highest point.
On the second day, the smell of first and second bin
slightly decreased while the smell of third is still
highest point.
On the third day, the level of smell in the first bin is
higher than in the second bin. And the smell of the
third is still the highest level as in the first two days
and there is no change in the second bon which was
used small piece of charcoal.
21. The finding of the study
According to the study, there is the lowest level of
smell in the second trash when compared with the
first and the third. We can conclude that the surface
area of the charcoal affect on deodorizing the
unpleasant smell of the rubbish.
And pieces of charcoal in garbage lid of second bin
can deodorize the bad smell better than the bigger
pieces in first trash cover. Comparing with the third
trash which used the charcoal dust, it is better to use
the pieces of charcoal (like the second bin) because
there are small holes in the pieces of charcoal. These
help to deodorize or absorb smell more effectively
than the charcoal dust.
22. The advantages of the study
The study helps to decrease the unpleasant smell
from the trashes.
The study helps to increase the utilization of charcoal.
