3. Britain…
Britain is full of culture and traditions which
have been around for hundreds of years. British
customs and traditions are famous all over the
world e.g. drinking tea, eating fish and chips and
wearing bowler hats. But there is also sport,
music, food and many royal occasions etc.
4. Food
British food has traditionally been based on
beef, lamb, pork, chicken and fish and generally
served with potatoes and one other vegetable.
The most common and typical foods eaten in
Britain include the sandwich, fish and chips,
pies, trifle and roasts dinners.
5. Politeness
The English are reserved
in manners, dress and
speech. They are famous
for politeness, self-
discipline and humour.
They say ‘please, thank
you, excuse me’ and
open doors etc.
6. Class
• The Upper ClassOften people with inherited wealth.
Includes some of the oldest families, with many of
them being titled aristocrats.
• The Middle ClassThe majority of the population of
Britain. They include industrialists, professionals,
business people and shop owners.
• Lower or Working ClassPeople who are agricultural,
mine and factory workers.
7. The Queen
The Queen is Head of State of the UK and 15 other
Commonwealth realms. The elder daughter of King
George VI and Queen Elizabeth, she was born in 1926
and became Queen at the age of 25, and has reigned
through more than five decades. The Queen is married
to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and has four
children and eight grandchildren.
8. Weather
England has mild temperatures not much
lower than 0ºC in winter and not much
higher than 32ºC in summer. It often rains
and can change quickly.
9. The life of a teenager
They enjoy chatting to and texting friends on
their mobiles, hanging out with their mates,
listening to the latest music, shopping for the
latest fashions or just watching movies on the
television or at the cinema. They go to school &
have hobbies like swimming, watching TV,
cycling and playing on the PS3 etc.
10. Cricket
Cricket is a bat and ball sport. The
objective of the game is to score more
runs (points) than the opposing team.
It is a team game played between two
teams of eleven players each.
