Sony Computer Entertainment Europe provides updates on their academic development programs for PSP and PS3. The programs offer real devkits, software tools, middleware access and support to help students learn. Students gain industry contacts and feedback through studio visits, talks and potential job shadowing. The PS3 program additionally provides a game engine with documentation and samples to help students learn multi-core optimization.

- I will mention our new Academic partnerships manager.
- I will be speaking about our experiences of the universities that have had good contact with SCEE and how they achieved that.
- On this slide, I’ll talk about how we have grown the PSP scheme and what some of the universities have achieved with their PSP kits. In particular, Derby University, and their game “Forge”, and Playground Squad, and their ported game engine, Tengine. We now have 24 universities signed up to the programme, in 9 countries.
- Announce the new PS3 scheme for academia. More restricted. Will cover what the PS3 mini-tool provides: Hardware The same body design as the PLAYSTATION 3 512MB XDR memory 2 Ethernet ports (normal LAN and Dev.LAN debugging port) 4 USB ports 160GB HDD Timeframe: Available Now! Price: TBC No communication processor (hence no self-diagnostic) No HDD included for BD emulation (but USB is OK) Performance tuning is partially restricted Some overhead for Dev.LAN port (being quantified) Did not make the cut… HW dip switch MS/SD/CF slots D-sub (monitor) out Analog audio (8ch) Foot switch Mention the trial that is beginning with the University of Abertay.
