Dear Partners
The “Food for progress” programme in Malawi, funded by USDA and
implemented by Development Aid From People to People in a Partnership
with Planet Aid, Inc. started out in the 2nd half of 2006 and is now by end
March 2007 up running with all main programme components in opera-
tions.
The partnership runs over 3 years and is in brief embracing the following
programs:
Farmers Club
The program will organize 12.000 small scale
farmers in clubs of 50 in each. The farmers will
recieve training on how to increace their production
and income.
Total Control of the Epidemic
The program reaches out to 400.000 people in 4
areas. 200 Field Officers will mobilize the
communities to control the spread of HIV/AIDS and
deal with the consequenses of the disease.
Training of teachers for the rural areas.
Teachers will be trained at the existing DAPP
Teacher Training College to become teachers in the
rural areas and a new teacher training college will
be constructed in Shire Highlands.
Nutrition training
Field Officers and student teachers will recieve
training to expand awareness of the impact of
nutrition on overall health.

The program in brief

The “Food for Progress” programmes have now passed the initial phases and are all on
a good track - living up to the goals set out.
Achievements as per 31.March
• The Total Control of the Epidemic has 200 Field Officers working in 4 areas.
201.849 people have been registered and introduced to the programme.
• Farmers Club has enrolled 12.000 farmers as members in 240 clubs.
• The Teacher Training College at Chilangoma has a total of 126 students fully en-
gaged in their program and construction of the additional buildings is ongoing.
• The construction of the existing college and the new college in Shire Highlands is
still awaiting the approval of the title deed of the land. A preliminary approval is
expected to be granted in late April 2007 where after construction can start.
• The Nutrition Training has been prepared and is bound to start in May 2007.

First training for farmers
First meetings for farmers The first meetings for farmers club has been conduct all the
farmers attended the meeting.
Quarterly meetings The first quarterly meetings for the farmers club committee
has been held.
Project Launch DAPP Farmers club has been launched by the Deputy Minis-
ter of education.
Establishment of model fields 60 model farmers has been established and there busy doing
land preparation.
Distribution of tools 1200 Farmers have receive farming tools these are the farm-
ers who have been identified by the committees.
Procurement of tools for farmers club 1200 Farming tools have been procured, the tools comprise of
Watering can, Garden folk, Hoe and Garden trowels.
Meeting equipments All meeting equipments have been procured for all the pro-
jects; this includes various equipments including Flip chart
stands for all the offices.
Video and Photo equipments One photo camera has been bought out 5 planned and a
video camera for all Food for Progress projects.
Flags and Promotional materials The flags and banners have been produced.

Training in Business management, grant
application, loan
application and repayments
The trainings will be under taken in the second semester.
Grant Distributions The grant distribution will be done in the second semester.
Establishment of Jetropha Nurseries 60 Jetropha nurseries has been established and 14,000 trees
has been planted.
T-Shirts
The first training of farmers has been conduct, all the farmers
attended the training.
1235 T-shirts has been printed and distributed to all the com-
mittee members.
Installation of rope pumps 10 rope pumps has been installed in the four project areas.
Establishment of vegetable gardens 300 Vegetable gardens have been established and the farm-
ers has been provided with different varieties of seeds.
Conducted lesson on Malaria prevention All the farmers in the four project attended the Malaria lessons
and they all participated in Malaria action campaign.
Conducted lessons on Child care All the farmers attended the Child care lessons.
Campaign on HIV/AIDs DAPP farmers club conducted HIV/AIDs action in all the four
project areas, all the farmers participated in the campaign

Establishment of vertiva nurseries 60 nurseries for vertiva have been established.
Establishment of group gardens 7 women group gardens have been established.
Field visits to farmers All the 12 000 enrolled farmers has been visited.
Quarterly meetings with committees 4 quarterly meetings have been held one in each project area.
Stakeholders meetings 4 stakeholders meetings have been conducted one in each
project area.
District meetings We participated in three district meetings.

Farmers have planted new crops compaired to
what they did before enrolling in the Clubs.
A total of ten rope pumps have been installed in all
the project areas and they are all in use.
The farmers have been introduced to improve-
ments such as how to get rid of insects.
Quarterly meetings have been held in each project
area and all the farmers enrolled attended.
HIV/AIDS action has been introduced in all the
four project areas by the Extension Workers.
The farmers make spouses and children to be part
of the Clubs activities.

STARTUP PROGRAMME
The Field Officers training The Field Officers were trained in December 2006 for 21
days. 203 were recruited to work with TCE as Field Officers.
FO present themselves to the people The Field Officers presented themselves to all the people in
their fields by holding meetings with all the committees in their
fields.
FO present themselves to local leaders The Field Officers presented themselves to all the local
leaders in their fields. These local leaders are the traditional
Authorities, Chiefs, School Heads and Church leaders. The
Field Officers have mobilized the local leaders to be
passionate with TCE.
Map out the field 2.000 people Every field officer has a map of his or her field. The maps are
placed in their WAAR (Wards Aids Action Rooms) and at the
TCE Corps and Division Offices in Zomba and Blantyre.
FO start Person to Person Campaign In January 2007 the Field Officers started the Person to
Person Campaign and registered the community and 201.879
have been registered.
FO start registration of all the people The Field Officers have exceeded the registration of people as
planned for March 31st.
EDUCATION AT ALL LEVELS
Initial one week training course for FO The refresher courses have been scheduled within the troop
meetings on every Friday. The courses which were done
during the initial training are also conducted during the troop
meeting as a follow up of what was presented in the training.
Field Officer Manual written and handed
to FO
The manual has been presented and handed over to the Field
Officers.
Patrol Leader Manual handed to the
patrol leaders
The Patrol Leaders are now in place. 20 Patrol Leaders have
been recruited and trained in leadership skills for them to be
able to lead.
Troop Commander Manual handed to
TC’s
From the printing company the Manuals will be in office in mid
April 2007
FO given their weekly tools The Field Officers are using their weekly tools i.e. household
registers, reporting and planning, patrol inventories etc.
FO reading the TCE Publications We are behind in getting the Publication printed

The Field Officers were trained in using the PES and they
have presented the PES to the people in their fields

Short Courses on Friday meetings. The courses were presented: STI’s, how to Conduct lessons,
Stigma and Discrimination, Psychosocial on Positive Living,
prevention using a tool of hope kit, lesson analysis etc.
Long courses for FO. The Manuals will be in the office from the printing company in
mid April 2007. (Field Officer as a Counsellor).
Training of Special Forces. Training of special forces will start in May 2007.
MEETINGS AND GATHERINGS
FRIDAY Troop Meetings (All 50 FO). The Field Officers are meeting in 4 troops for troop meeting
every Friday.
Patrol Meetings (10 FO meet). The Patrol leaders are now in place and are trained to do their
work. The Field Officers are meeting in their WAAR room to-
gether with their Patrol leaders.
Patrol Leader meetings and workshops. The Patrol Leaders workshop was done in both Zomba and
Blantyre and it will continue monthly for the next three months.
DCCC meeting (Management and work-
shops).
The DCCC meetings (Division Command Communication
Centre) are conducted every week on Saturdays.
Division Commander Forum (DCF). The Division Commander Forum meetings are conducted
once a month.
Corps Commander Forum. The Corps Commander Forum is conducted once quarterly
every year.
Mobilization of Passionates. The mobilization has started and is in its initial phase.
Organizing and registration of orphans. The Field Officers have already registered the orphans and
referred them to orphan care groups and Social Welfare.
ECT - PERIODIC PLANS IN TCE
Local leaders mobilized to be Passion-
ates.
The Chiefs and the local leaders have been mobilized to be
Passionate.
Information and general knowledge
about HIV/AIDS given by FO to people.
The Field Officers are giving people the HIV/AIDS information
as they are doing the door to door campaign, 215,289 have
been given basic information on HIV/AIDS and PES has been
introduced to them in preparation for the second visit were
they are going to be on a PES plan
Lessons on STD’s and STI’s. Field Officers have been given a course on STD’s and STI’s
before teaching the communities.
Mobilization for VCT. People in all the fields have been mobilized to go for VCT and
370 people have gone for HIV testing. Mobile testing is being
organized because Field Officers have many people who are
waiting to be tested.

Condom demonstration and distribution. We have secured enough condoms for the Field Officers and
so far 56,109 have been distributed.
Condom outlet organized. 55 condom outlets have been established and 55 passionates
have been trained to care for the outlets
Perpendicular Estimate System. The Perpendicular Estimate System has been presented to
the people in the community.
Establishment of TCE libraries. The publication will be in the office from the printing company
in mid April.
Registration of sick people. The Field Officers are referring the sick people to HBC in their
fields as they are partners in the HIV/AIDS field.
Identifying of all vulnerable people. The orphans and the chronically ill were identified and
referred to Orphan Care Groups and Home Based Care
Groups.
PES Campaigns. PES presentation is a one day campaign conducted when the
Field Officers start their work. They are also trained on how to
present the PES to other people (community).
Reports from FO. The Field Officers are reporting in every troop meeting which
takes place every Friday.
Reports from Troop Commanders. The Troop Commander reports to the DCC every Saturdays in
the DCCC.
Reports from DC to CC. The DC reports to the CC every month and every week the
plan is presented.
Field visits by TC and SF. All visits are recorded in the Field Visits Form.
Quarter reports to partners. The quarterly reports are sent to donors and partners monthly
and quarterly.

The Perpendicular Estimate System has been
presented to the people in the community.
Short courses to train field officers are held on a
weekly basis during the troop meetings.
The Field Officers are a Household register when
talking to the individuals in a household.
The Field Officers are giving people the HIV/AIDS
information when being registered.
The Field officers are often to visit a household
more times in order to meet all members.
The orphans and sick people are being referred
Orphan Care groups and Social Welfare.

Training of 50 students to take place - 50 students from Team 2006 have completed the Construction

The enrollment process for Team 2007

The Ministry of Education has changed the calendar - as a
result the team will start July 2007. The enrollment process
has started and many applications are being received.

EXPANSION OF THE COLLEGE
Construction to be finished April 1st
2007.
All the planned hostels at the college are being constructed at
one time. Hostels for 130 students are being constructed. They
will be finished May 31st.
Construction to be 60 % finished. Class Rooms for 80 students are under construction. The
construction is 60 % completed.
ORIGINALLY PLANNED ACTIVITIES
EMPLOYMENT OF ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL
Employment of additional personnel to
start in April 2007.
One Team Teacher, 2 group teachers, 2 subject lecturers and
1 driver have been employed.
ACTIVITIES MADE POSSIBLE DUE TO INCREASED FUNDINGS
TRAINING OF STUDENTS
62 students team 2005 to continue. 59 students are doing their teaching practice in 11 rural pri-
mary schools close to the college. 3 Students from the team
have written supplementary examinations and will soon join
the others.

13 students have completed the Construction Period and have
started the Period: Teaching Practice and Further Studies
Employment of a Financial Administra-
tor to take place in September and Oc-

Production and reviewing of DMM tasks for big parts of the
curriculum has been carried out.
Preparations for the school based teaching practice for Team
2005 where the Humana TTC concept and the Malawi Govern-
ment Curriculum has been united in a design of the period.
A lecturer has attended a course on Frontline Institute, Zim-
babwe.
Purchase of computers and books to be
done in November and December
33 laptops have been bought and are in full use.
Books for College Library have been bought.
Purchase of cars, minibus, computer

1 Mitsubishi L-200 purchased and in use. 1 Motor bike has just

vitivities at the College.

The overall timeline for DAPP Teacher Training College, Shire Highland in the Operation Manual
has been changed due to an unexpected long procedure of the legal matters in terms of passing
the land on from Ministry to another.
Construction will start in 2nd quarter of 2007 and operation is expected to start in late 2007.
The mentioned changes does not affect the intended outcome as agreed to in the contract.

Present the design of the College to lo-

The drawings have been presented to the Director of Planning
from Shire Highlands Educational Division and to the District
Commissioner.
Quatations from contractors procured The construction work has been out for public tenders and
about 8 quotations were submitted.
Bill of Quantities finalised Pending. This will be finalized as soon as DAPP has got a
final approval of having the land.
AUTHORIZATION OF AND LICENCE TO TTC 2
Submitting drawings and specifications
to Ministry of Education.
The Director of Planning from Ministry of Educations has seen
and approved the drawings and the specifications.
Meetings with local authorities where the
baseline survey will be carried out.
Meetings with DC Thyolo, T/A Bvumbwe and thereafter with
the primary school adviser from Thyolo District were held and
it was agreed to where the baseline survey should be done.
Contact to locally appointed helpers. The headmaster of the primary school which was the base for
the survey was contacted and was a good helper.

Production of questionnaires. Questionnaires were made and elaborated together with the
students, Team 2006 at TTC Chilangoma who were to carry
out the survey.
Courses for the group which will conduct
the baseline survey.
4 courses where held with the students from TTC Chilangoma
to prepare them for conducting the baseline.
Collecting of data and statistic starts. The 63 students were based in primary school in the middle of
the area in which the survey was to be conducted. During a
week the visited the 70 villages and collected the data from
the households.
Conclusion and a final report made. All informations has been joined and a conclusion made.
Copies of the report handed over to the
local authorities.

PROMOTION OF PARTNERSHIP
Launching ceremony with all media in-
vited.
Planet Aid Inc and DAPP Malawi hosted a Launch the 20h
and 21st March 2007. 1.000 people attended the celebration.
National TV, radio and the newspapers were covering the
event. Very during the week leading up to the Launch inter-
views and informations were brought in TV, radio and in the
newspapers.
Pamphlet produced to promote the Part-
ner Ship.
A pamphlet and a booklet has been produced.

From the projects
Nutrition training of the 200 Field Officers and Team 2006 and 2007 from the Teacher
Training College at Chilangoma will start May 2007.

Official Launch the 20th and 21st of March
The 20th and 21st of March 2007 Planet Aid Inc. and DAPP Malawi hosted a Launch of
the Food for Progress programmes. Representatives from Ministry of Health, Agricul-
ture and Education and from USDA, Pretoria attended along with many members from
the 5 districts, representatives from the traditional authorities, other NGOs, trailblazers,
local communities and all people working or studying in one of the many DAPP pro-
jects. More than 1.000 in total took part in celebrating the programmes which are
reaching out to at least 1/2 million Malawians during the 3 year project period.
The national television, radio and al newspapers covered the event thoroughly.
The 21st was a “Big Walk” through the main streets of Blantyre, ending up at a Fair
Ground where speeches were held - all again paying tribute to USDA for the funds
which enable Planet Aid Inc and Development Aid from People to People implement
the project to the great benefit of Malawians.

Dear Partners The “Food for progress” programme in Malawi, funded by USDA and implemented by Development Aid From People to People in a Partnership with Planet Aid, Inc. started out in the 2nd half of 2006 and is now by end March 2007 up running with all main programme components in opera- tions. The partnership runs over 3 years and is in brief embracing the following programs: Farmers Club The program will organize 12.000 small scale farmers in clubs of 50 in each. The farmers will recieve training on how to increace their production and income. Total Control of the Epidemic The program reaches out to 400.000 people in 4 areas. 200 Field Officers will mobilize the communities to control the spread of HIV/AIDS and deal with the consequenses of the disease. Training of teachers for the rural areas. Teachers will be trained at the existing DAPP Teacher Training College to become teachers in the rural areas and a new teacher training college will be constructed in Shire Highlands. Nutrition training Field Officers and student teachers will recieve training to expand awareness of the impact of nutrition on overall health. “FOOD FOR PROGRESS” MALAWI * May 2007 The program in brief 1
  • 3. The “Food for Progress” programmes have now passed the initial phases and are all on a good track - living up to the goals set out. Achievements as per 31.March • The Total Control of the Epidemic has 200 Field Officers working in 4 areas. 201.849 people have been registered and introduced to the programme. • Farmers Club has enrolled 12.000 farmers as members in 240 clubs. • The Teacher Training College at Chilangoma has a total of 126 students fully en- gaged in their program and construction of the additional buildings is ongoing. • The construction of the existing college and the new college in Shire Highlands is still awaiting the approval of the title deed of the land. Quarterly meetings The first quarterly meetings for the farmers club committee has been held. Project Launch DAPP Farmers club has been launched by the Deputy Minis- ter of education. Establishment of model fields 60 model farmers has been established and there busy doing land preparation. Distribution of tools 1200 Farmers have receive farming tools these are the farm- ers who have been identified by the committees. Procurement of tools for farmers club 1200 Farming tools have been procured, the tools comprise of Watering can, Garden folk, Hoe and Garden trowels. Meeting equipments All meeting equipments have been procured for all the pro- jects; this includes various equipments including Flip chart stands for all the offices. Video and Photo equipments One photo camera has been bought out 5 planned and a video camera for all Food for Progress projects. Flags and Promotional materials The flags and banners have been produced. Meeting Equipments Meeting equipments have been produced. Training in Business management, grant application, loan application and repayments The trainings will be under taken in the second semester. Grant Distributions The grant distribution will be done in the second semester. Establishment of Jetropha Nurseries 60 Jetropha nurseries has been established and 14,000 trees has been planted. T-Shirts The first training of farmers has been conduct, all the farmers attended the training. 1235 T-shirts has been printed and distributed to all the com- mittee members. Installation of rope pumps 10 rope pumps has been installed in the four project areas. Establishment of vegetable gardens 300 Vegetable gardens have been established and the farm- ers has been provided with different varieties of seeds. Conducted lesson on Malaria prevention All the farmers in the four project attended the Malaria lessons and they all participated in Malaria action campaign. Conducted lessons on Child care All the farmers attended the Child care lessons. Establishment of group gardens 7 women group gardens have been established. Field visits to farmers All the 12 000 enrolled farmers has been visited. Quarterly meetings with committees 4 quarterly meetings have been held one in each project area. Stakeholders meetings 4 stakeholders meetings have been conducted one in each project area.   • 6. Farmers have planted new crops compaired to what they did before enrolling in the Clubs. A total of ten rope pumps have been installed in all the project areas and they are all in use. The farmers have been introduced to improve- ments such as how to get rid of insects. Quarterly meetings have been held in each project area and all the farmers enrolled attended. HIV/AIDS action has been introduced in all the four project areas by the Extension Workers. PLAN ACCORDING TO TIMELINE ACHIEVED STARTUP PROGRAMME The Field Officers training The Field Officers were trained in December 2006 for 21 days. 203 were recruited to work with TCE as Field Officers. FO present themselves to the people The Field Officers presented themselves to all the people in their fields by holding meetings with all the committees in their fields. FO present themselves to local leaders The Field Officers presented themselves to all the local leaders in their fields. These local leaders are the traditional Authorities, Chiefs, School Heads and Church leaders. The Field Officers have mobilized the local leaders to be passionate with TCE. Map out the field 2.000 people Every field officer has a map of his or her field. The maps are placed in their WAAR (Wards Aids Action Rooms) and at the TCE Corps and Division Offices in Zomba and Blantyre. FO start Person to Person Campaign In January 2007 the Field Officers started the Person to Person Campaign and registered the community and 201.879 have been registered. FO start registration of all the people The Field Officers have exceeded the registration of people as planned for March 31st. EDUCATION AT ALL LEVELS Initial one week training course for FO The refresher courses have been scheduled within the troop meetings on every Friday. The courses which were done during the initial training are also conducted during the troop meeting as a follow up of what was presented in the training. Field Officer Manual written and handed to FO The manual has been presented and handed over to the Field Officers. Patrol Leader Manual handed to the patrol leaders The Patrol Leaders are now in place. 20 Patrol Leaders have been recruited and trained in leadership skills for them to be able to lead. The courses were presented: STI’s, how to Conduct lessons, Stigma and Discrimination, Psychosocial on Positive Living, prevention using a tool of hope kit, lesson analysis etc. Long courses for FO. The Manuals will be in the office from the printing company in mid April 2007. (Field Officer as a Counsellor). Training of Special Forces. Training of special forces will start in May 2007. MEETINGS AND GATHERINGS FRIDAY Troop Meetings (All 50 FO). The Field Officers are meeting in 4 troops for troop meeting every Friday. Patrol Meetings (10 FO meet). The Patrol leaders are now in place and are trained to do their work. The Field Officers are meeting in their WAAR room to- gether with their Patrol leaders. Patrol Leader meetings and workshops. The Patrol Leaders workshop was done in both Zomba and Blantyre and it will continue monthly for the next three months. DCCC meeting (Management and work- shops). The DCCC meetings (Division Command Communication Centre) are conducted every week on Saturdays. Division Commander Forum (DCF). The Division Commander Forum meetings are conducted once a month. Corps Commander Forum. The Corps Commander Forum is conducted once quarterly every year. Mobilization of Passionates. The mobilization has started and is in its initial phase. Organizing and registration of orphans. The Field Officers have already registered the orphans and referred them to orphan care groups and Social Welfare. ECT - PERIODIC PLANS IN TCE Local leaders mobilized to be Passion- ates. The Chiefs and the local leaders have been mobilized to be Passionate. Information and general knowledge about HIV/AIDS given by FO to people. The Field Officers are giving people the HIV/AIDS information as they are doing the door to door campaign, 215,289 have been given basic information on HIV/AIDS and PES has been introduced to them in preparation for the second visit were they are going to be on a PES plan Lessons on STD’s and STI’s. Field Officers have been given a course on STD’s and STI’s before teaching the communities. Mobilization for VCT. People in all the fields have been mobilized to go for VCT and 370 people have gone for HIV testing. Condom outlet organized. 55 condom outlets have been established and 55 passionates have been trained to care for the outlets Perpendicular Estimate System. The Perpendicular Estimate System has been presented to the people in the community. Establishment of TCE libraries. The publication will be in the office from the printing company in mid April. Registration of sick people. The Field Officers are referring the sick people to HBC in their fields as they are partners in the HIV/AIDS field. Identifying of all vulnerable people. The orphans and the chronically ill were identified and referred to Orphan Care Groups and Home Based Care Groups. PES Campaigns. PES presentation is a one day campaign conducted when the Field Officers start their work. They are also trained on how to present the PES to other people (community). Reports from FO. The Field Officers are reporting in every troop meeting which takes place every Friday. Reports from Troop Commanders. The Troop Commander reports to the DCC every Saturdays in the DCCC. Reports from DC to CC. The DC reports to the CC every month and every week the plan is presented. Field visits by TC and SF. All visits are recorded in the Field Visits Form. Short courses to train field officers are held on a weekly basis during the troop meetings. The Field Officers are a Household register when talking to the individuals in a household. The Field Officers are giving people the HIV/AIDS information when being registered. The Field officers are often to visit a household more times in order to meet all members. The orphans and sick people are being referred Orphan Care groups and Social Welfare. 9

The Ministry of Education has changed the calendar - as a result the team will start July 2007. The enrollment process has started and many applications are being received. ORIGINALLY PLANNED ACTIVITIES EXPANSION OF THE COLLEGE Construction to be finished April 1st 2007. All the planned hostels at the college are being constructed at one time. Hostels for 130 students are being constructed. They will be finished May 31st. Construction to be 60 % finished. Class Rooms for 80 students are under construction. The construction is 60 % completed. ORIGINALLY PLANNED ACTIVITIES EMPLOYMENT OF ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL Employment of additional personnel to start in April 2007. One Team Teacher, 2 group teachers, 2 subject lecturers and 1 driver have been employed. ACTIVITIES MADE POSSIBLE DUE TO INCREASED FUNDINGS TRAINING OF STUDENTS 62 students team 2005 to continue. 59 students are doing their teaching practice in 11 rural pri- mary schools close to the college. 3 Students from the team have written supplementary examinations and will soon join the others. 13 students from the Team 2006 to start the training in August 13 students have completed the Construction Period and have started the Period: Teaching Practice and Further Studies Employment of a Financial Administra- tor to take place in September and Oc- tober The Financial Administrator was employed and is securing the good administration.

Preparations for the school based teaching practice for Team 2005 where the Humana TTC concept and the Malawi Govern- ment Curriculum has been united in a design of the period. A lecturer has attended a course on Frontline Institute, Zim- babwe. Purchase of computers and books to be done in November and December 33 laptops have been bought and are in full use. Books for College Library have been bought. Purchase of cars, minibus, computer equipment 1 Mitsubishi L-200 purchased and in use. 1 Motor bike has just arrived. Information and Documentation Year Reports in December and Janu- ary. Documentation in Connection with Launch Ceremonies in March. Writing of Year Reports was done. In connection with Launch TV documentaries as well as other information materials were produced. Team 2006 has trained choir singing - a useful and joyful tool for a teacher to master. The Deputy Minister from Ministry of Education is being explained about the programme. 59 students are doing their teaching practice in 11 rural primary schools close to the college. 50 students have completed the Construction Period at the College. Training preschool teachers is a part of the acti- vitivities at the College. ` 12 `

The overall timeline for DAPP Teacher Training College, Shire Highland in the Operation Manual has been changed due to an unexpected long procedure of the legal matters in terms of passing the land on from Ministry to another. Construction will start in 2nd quarter of 2007 and operation is expected to start in late 2007. The mentioned changes does not affect the intended outcome as agreed to in the contract. PLAN ACCORDING TO REVISED TIMELINE ACHIEVED START UP OF ACTIVITIES Submission of Environmental Impact Assessment. “Project Brief” was submitted in October 2007. The final report, based on guidelines from review of project brief submitted in January 2007 to Department of Environ- mental Affairs. Approval of Environmental Impact As- sessment. The report is expected to be finally approved the 25th April 2007. CONSTRUCTION - PRELIMINARY Receive architectural drawings from the architect The architectural drawings has come. Local engineer starts to make technical drawings and specifications All technical drawings as well as electrical and sanitary draw- ings have been made by local engineers. Present the design of the College to lo- cal key persons The drawings have been presented to the Director of Planning from Shire Highlands Educational Division and to the District Commissioner. Quatations from contractors procured The construction work has been out for public tenders and about 8 quotations were submitted. Bill of Quantities finalised Pending. This will be finalized as soon as DAPP has got a final approval of having the land. AUTHORIZATION OF AND LICENCE TO TTC 2 Submitting drawings and specifications to Ministry of Education. The Director of Planning from Ministry of Educations has seen and approved the drawings and the specifications. Meetings with local authorities where the baseline survey will be carried out. Meetings with DC Thyolo, T/A Bvumbwe and thereafter with the primary school adviser from Thyolo District were held and it was agreed to where the baseline survey should be done. Contact to locally appointed helpers. The headmaster of the primary school which was the base for the survey was contacted and was a good helper. Questionnaires were made and elaborated together with the students, Team 2006 at TTC Chilangoma who were to carry out the survey. Courses for the group which will conduct the baseline survey. 4 courses where held with the students from TTC Chilangoma to prepare them for conducting the baseline. Collecting of data and statistic starts. The 63 students were based in primary school in the middle of the area in which the survey was to be conducted. During a week the visited the 70 villages and collected the data from the households. Conclusion and a final report made. All informations has been joined and a conclusion made. Copies of the report handed over to the local authorities. Pending. PROMOTION OF PARTNERSHIP Launching ceremony with all media in- vited. Planet Aid Inc and DAPP Malawi hosted a Launch the 20h and 21st March 2007. 1.000 people attended the celebration. National TV, radio and the newspapers were covering the event. Very during the week leading up to the Launch inter- views and informations were brought in TV, radio and in the newspapers. Pamphlet produced to promote the Part- ner Ship.   • 17. “FOOD FOR PROGRESS” MALAWI * May 2007 Official Launch the 20th and 21st of March The 20th and 21st of March 2007 Planet Aid Inc. and DAPP Malawi hosted a Launch of the Food for Progress programmes. Representatives from Ministry of Health, Agricul- ture and Education and from USDA, Pretoria attended along with many members from the 5 districts, representatives from the traditional authorities, other NGOs, trailblazers, local communities and all people working or studying in one of the many DAPP pro- jects. More than 1.000 in total took part in celebrating the programmes which are reaching out to at least 1/2 million Malawians during the 3 year project period. The national television, radio and al newspapers covered the event thoroughly. The 21st was a “Big Walk” through the main streets of Blantyre, ending up at a Fair Ground where speeches were held - all again paying tribute to USDA for the funds which enable Planet Aid Inc and Development Aid from People to People implement the project to the great benefit of Malawians. 16
