Congressman Anthony Weiner Should Not Resign
1. Congressman Anthony Weiner Should Not Resign
Even though his political enemies are demanding he do so, Congressman Anthony Weiner should not
resign. The so-called scandal surrounding his behavior is easily summed up with the unsurprising
headline, Single Congressman Sought to Have Sex With Women.
When Rep. Anthony Weiner held a press conference on Tuesday confessing that he had sent sexually
suggestive pictures of himself to about six women over the course of three years; he made a curious
and, in my view, ridiculous statement.
Weiner tearfully stated that: "[O]ver the past few years, I have engaged in several inappropriate
conversations conducted over Twitter, Facebook, email, and occasionally on the phone with women I
had met online.
I have exchanged messages and photos of an explicit nature with about six women over the last
three years. For the most part, these relation- communications took place before my marriage,
though some have sadly took place after."
Clearly the congressman is under a lot of stress and duress in the aftermath of this scandal. But
Weiner's remarks on the nature of his conduct are plainly ridiculous. There is nothing inappropriate
about a single, heterosexual, American man seeking to meet women over the internet and have sex
with them. Period!
Frankly, the facts show that the truly aberrant course of action is for a single, heterosexual,
American man to NOT try to meet women over the internet so he can have sex with them. Or as the
writers behind the play Avenue Q put it, The Internet is For Porn.
According to statistical analysis by Online MBA, 40 million Americans are regular visitors to
pornography sites; and 1 in 3 viewers of internet pornography are women. Twenty-five percent of all
internet searches, that's one in four, are pornographic.

3. And Online MBA points out that the state with the highest subscription rate to pornography, is not
liberal bastions like California or New York, but Utah. And that's subscribers, people who actually
pay for online pornography - not including all the consumers who watch it for free.
The mainstream media has gone off the deep-end on this story, with a pretentious and pseudo-
puritanical hypocrisy. Which is ironic considering that no other industry is as responsible for the
hyper-sexualization of American culture, as the corporate media. And no other industry, claims the
billions of dollars in profits that the corporate media conglomerates earn annually off of
pornography.
Anthony Weiner has some questions to answer to his wife, but it is important to emphasize that most
of his interactions with women only six women over three years took place when he was single.
Should we force politicians to resign because they are single men with sex drives.
America is a representative democracy and Rep. Weiner's actions represent the actions of millions of
American men and women; let him that is without sin cast the first stone.
