2. WORKSHOP: FROM THE GEOBOARD TO THE GEOMETRIC DESIGN
Geoboards were invented and popularized by Egyptian mathematician Caleb
Gattegno in the 1950s.It is useful for studying geometry, symmetry and
transformations.
A geoboard consists of a board where some nails have been partly hammered
into a piece of wood in a particular pattern. Figures are made on the geoboard
by stretching rubber bands from one nail to another until the desired shape is
formed. We will first work with a paper geoboard drawing different figures.
After that we are going to work with geoboards on line. Finally we are going to
use GIMP and its possibilities using greed’s to draw figures and geometric
designs.
First session
The geoboard. Drawing figures on a squared geoboard and on an isometric
geoboard on line.
3. Second session.
Drawing volume figures on an isometric geoboard on line
Gimp: Using templates and grids. How to draw lines.
4.
5. Third session Gimp : how to draw and colour plane figures and volume figures.
Draw symmetrical figures
