Up to late 90’s people in our country were not aware about distance education because the
intensity of education was less or the lifestyle was not appealing for any extra education. But
from the beginning years of last decade city living people start feeling the necessity of extra
education simultaneously with their job or earning and that initiates the distance education in our
country. In the inception IGNOU was the whole and sole of this educational track with some of
the popular programs but with the increasing demand number of universities gets hiked with
some more programs and specialties. All of them established with a common motto to fulfill the
social demands. Jodhpur National University is one of the strongest competitors of this race track
basically located in the western part of our country. They are simultaneously holding the
affiliations from ministry of health and family welfare, university grants commission, all India
council for technical education, national council for teacher education, pharmacy council of India
and the distance council of India. The reason is the combination of programs and tracks in same
platform and that is opening the opportunities for the seekers.
This university is combining lots of things beside the tradition is going on from a long time by
other distance learning universities. One of the key features provided by this university is the job
fair this campus is organizing. In general this is a professional gathering basically organized by
the regular universities but JNU is playing the lead role here as they are combining some of the
regular colleges and institutes from all over Rajasthan. Most of the course curriculums are
industry oriented and they are upgrading those after each duration gap. The programs are given

2. in both Hindi and English which is amplifying the options. JNU is giving one year, two year and
three years program in the same specializations of different curriculums. To pursue any one year
program you should be a matriculate while some of the two years program allows them. Among
the most popular one year programs trade certificate and inter trade certificate (computer
operator, hardware and networking), diploma in computer application, trade certificate in
electrical, mechanical, carpentry, mobile phone repair, housekeeping, cookery and tourist guide
are the leading ones. Certificate in art and craft is another popular program given by this
university. PG diploma in journalism and mass communication, PG diploma in corporate law
and cyber law are three prestigious one year programs held after the graduation. This university
has expanded their hand in both field of research education. M. Phil is given in physical
education, management education, language groups (any of the 18 Indian languages), some of
the foreign languages, law, para medical specializations, library science and home science. Such
combination of distance learning programs are very rare among the universities and this
university is playing their role here. This prestigious university is also working with the
employment part of their regular students as they are calling some recruiting companies every
year. Although the percentage is low now but it is increasing year wise.
