History!
Late 1800’s J.A. Roebling Co (Trenton, NJ) owned “The Wire Rope
Lubricating Co.”

John Roebling was civil engineer who designed and was chief
engineer of the historic suspension Bridge in New York City
“Brooklyn Bridge”.

American Oil helped design the lubricants to protect the bridge in
late 1800s.

Over 75+ years ago American Oil acquired The Wire Rope
Lubricating Co. from the Roebling family.

Ever since American Oil has taken the original technology and has

Principal Functions of Vitalife® Wire
Rope Lubricants
Reduce Friction as the individual wires rub against
each other and lubricate the core.
Provide Corrosion Protection for the inside wires
and on the exterior surface of the wire rope.

Vitalife® 400
Penetrating Wire Rope Lubricant

Vitalife 400 Contains a petroleum solvent that carries the lubricant into
the core, then evaporates and leaves behind a lubricant film providing
corrosion protection by displacing moisture within the wire rope.

Provides lubricity that allows the wires to move uniformly.

Allows for easy visual inspection of the ropes.

Extremely good lubricating penetration and creep properties
at ambient temperatures.


Why not use a coating lubricant?

Penetrates only slightly, sealing the outside of the cable
from moisture and reducing wear and corrosion from
contact with outside external conditions. However,

Creates a heavy shield around ropes

Hinders internal wire lubricant corrosion protecting.

Makes ropes hard to inspect.

Can harden and chip exposing rope to adverse
conditions

Can Penetrate to the core
Acid and Alkali resistance, water displacing
properties, excellent rust prevention,
oxidation stability.
The high polarity of the product enables it to
creep and “wet” the metal surface forming
an adhesive and protective film.

Dry to the touch coating to prevent fling off.


Applying wire rope Lubricants

There are many methods of applying these type of lubricants from
brushes, drip devises, spray cans and power sprays and pressurized
mechanical devises.

The easiest and most economical method should be chosen for each
job.

What is most efficient in one case may not be the best method in
another.

It is impossible to make specific recommendations regarding the time
interval that should elapse in between applications. Usually the
frequency of application can be determined by observation.

Efficiency of your lubrication program can be checked by carefully
inspecting sections of wire rope removed from service, examining them
internally for wear, corrosion, amount of lubricants remaining and
general condition of the core.
