6. 2D Imagers Functionality
• Developed from digital camera technology
• Can read 1D and 2D bar codes
• Can read maxicodes, QR codes, aztec codes
• Can read bar codes from any orientation
• Significant motion tolerance- can read codes moving up to
500 inches per second
7. 2D Imagers Functionality
• Can simultaneously process all the bar codes within their
field of view
• Longer range- can read bar codes from up to 50 feet away
• Can read smaller, more dense bar codes
• Can read bar codes of lower quality
• Can process bar codes displayed on cell phones, TVs, PCs
and PDAs
8. Laser Scanner
• Developed specifically for linear bar codes
• Cannot read maxicodes, QR codes, aztec codes
• Requires a scan line to be aimed across the
horizontal bar code (requires orientation)
• Bar codes typically are scanned one at a
time (cannot simultaneously scan codes)
9. Laser Scanner
• Short range- typically laser bar code scanners
must be a few feet from bar code
• Have difficulty reading smaller images
• Difficult to impossible to read bar codes on
TV, PCs and other electronic devices
10.
11. 2D Imagers Additional Capabilities
• Digital Imaging & Video- can document proof of
delivery, proof of condition, etc.
• Signature Capture- digital photography capability can be
used to capture signatures, digitize it, and apply it to a
document.
• Document Imaging & Video- automatically enter billing and
order information and extracting addresses for delivery
documents.
• 2D bar codes are used to provide more information about the
labeled item- can encode a URL that automatically takes the
reader to a website
