1. 3) What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Audience feedback has been significantly helpful in the production/construction of
my media products, specifically feedback from samples of our target audience. We
collected this feedback via social networking sites such as YouTube and Facebook
but also through screenings of our music videos in school. Our editing, or rather the
pace of our editing, received the most praise; most felt it matched the pace of our
song perfectly and meant that our music video remained entertaining throughout.
They also responded positively to the variety of locations used in our music video as
it meant that shots were rarely repeated thus always engaging. The most useful
feedback however was the constructive criticism, which was more present in the
screening of the music videos as opposed to any online feedback. Our sample
audience commented on the text we used in our music video; they appreciated the
novelty of it and thought it worked however felt that it either needed to be more
prominent or taken out completely as the previous timing of it looked too random.
This led to us adding more text in throughout which added another engaging element
to our music video, particularly keeping the audience entertained even as the music
video is brought to a close. It was also useful in pointing out any accuracy mistakes
we had with timing the miming with the song as this was easy to miss during editing.
Whilst they enjoyed the pace of editing, for certain shots (such as the shot of our
artist singing in the mirror after applying her lipstick), they urged us to limit the
amount of cuts as sometimes they were so quick it prevented them from processing
the actual shot.
Similarly with our digipak and advert, they felt that the photos reflected the image we
had previously pitched, noting similarities with our mood board and they appreciated
the artistic effects that our editing has resulted in.
However, overall, our feedback was positive as our audience received and enjoyed
the carefree, fun message that we wanted to communicate and felt that our music
video suited the song.
