What are antibiotics?
Antibiotics:
• Kill bacteria, and keep
  them from
  reproducing.
History
    • First created in 1944.
    • Helped in treating
      diseases.
    • First antibiotics were
      created by a British
      scientist, Howard
      Florey.
Pro:
   • Can save lives
   • Are affordable
   • Helped treat many
     diseases
Antibiotics can save lives!
• In emergencies, antibiotics can be a life
  saver.
• There’s a wide variety of forms of
  antibiotics.
Affordable! :D
• Antibiotics can cost around $50.
• Compared to staying in the ER, antibiotics
  can save you about $2,000.
Can treat many diseases
• Antibiotics can treat many common
  infections, such as yeast infections.
• Treats infections that are caused by
  bacteria.
CONS:
• Can’t treat viruses
• Side effects
• Resistance
Viruses
• Antibiotics can’t treat viruses or viral
  infections.
• Viruses can cause: Flu, measles, mumps,
  and hepatitis.
Side effect
• Most common side effects include diarrhea,
  feeling sick and vomiting.
• Some side effects aren’t obvious.
• You might get a fungal infection.
• More serious side effects include kidney
  problems, problems with blood clotting,
  increased sensitivity to the sun, blood
  disorders, and deafness.
Resistance
• Some infections are resistant to antibiotics.
• When people don’t take full prescribed
  prescription…
• Stronger bacteria can be formed that are
  resistant to antibiotics.
