Cheapest to Mt.Kota Kinabalu?
Im planning a trip to Mt. Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. Can anyone point out the cheapest rides,
hotels, food when i get to Kota Kinabalu Airport?
Kaki Cuti Cuti Malaysia answers:
Well, mt Kinabalu is about 2 hours by bus from Kota Kinabalu. If you’re planning to stay in KOta
Kinabalu for a day or two before going to the mountains, you can stay at NOrth Borneo Cabin
(one of the cheapest backpackers hostel- MYR20/night) in KK (thats what the locals call KOta
KInabalu). Anyways, there are other budget hotels that you can stay for about MYR60/night-try
High Street Inn). The taxi ride from the airport to the city centre will be around MYR15 and tell
the driver to drop you at any of the place you want to stay. There are many cheap food around.
Just walk around , KK is not big and you won’t get lost.
You can either reserve a place to stay at the mountain now
(http://www.suterasanctuarylodges.com.my/ ) or do it later when you get to KK. If you are
planning to stay overnight at the park and climb the next day, you will have to reserve a place at
the Kinabalu Park and then another place when you’re climbing which is at Laban Rata. Like
butterfly said, you can ake the bus to the mountain but instead of taking the bus from Inanam
bus station, you can get one from the city centre. It is located at Padang Merdeka. There are
mini buses (MYR15/person), 4WDs(MYR15/person) and taxis(MYR20/person).

Donna asks…
What does those numbers located at both ends of an airport
runway mean?
Recently, I went to Sandakan. Our aeroplane flew past Kota Kinabalu International Airport
(BKI). I noticed that on the airport runway, there was a number 20. In Google Earth, I also
noticed the same number 20. But now both sides of the runway has a number. 20 on one side
and 02 on the other side. I also checked Sandakan Airport on Google Earth and its runway
also had two numbers. 08 and 26. What is the use of painting those numbers on the runway?
And why for each airport the numbers differs?
Kaki Cuti Cuti Malaysia answers:
They all called runway numbers. Google it, or visit the Wiki site that I have provided below for
detailed information on how and why they are numbered.

Hotel help in Kota Kinabalu?
Hello.. I’m planning a trip to Kota Kinabalu. I’ve found a great hotel discount, but want to be
sure it’s a good location. This is the info given:
TA-/00-01 1Borneo Hypermall Jalan Ums, Kota Kinabalu, SABAH 88450, Malaysia
From Kota Kinabalu International Airport, take a taxi, shuttle bus or private car and drive
towards Jalan Coastal passing through Jalan Tun Razak and moving towards Jalan Kk Bypass
to 1Borneo Hypermall located at Jalan Sulaman.
I would like somewhere close to shops and restaurants.. is this going to be it?
Thank you
Kaki Cuti Cuti Malaysia answers:
I really wouldn’t stay at 1borneo, its miles away from the town in the middle of nowhere and you
would definitely regret it. My girlfriend works there and I often have to drop her off in the morning
and traffic to and from 1borneo can be horrible. The mall isn’t even finished yet either so there
is a lack of things to see and do there.

5. Do I need to recheck my luggage in after the plane has landed
during the in transit?
e.g; I’m flying to Penang from Kota Kinabalu, the plane stops by Kuala Lumpur in transit to
Penang,I’ve checked my luggage in at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport,do I need to
take my luggage and check them in again at Kuala Lumpur International Airport during the in
transit,or the luggage will be flown to Penang from KKIA?Or else? I seriously have no idea! This
is my first flight out, alone. Thanks for answering!
Kaki Cuti Cuti Malaysia answers:
It depends on a few things.
Firstly, when you check in at Kota Kinabalu, the person at the check in desk usually will ask –
“Do you want to pick your luggage up at Kuala Lumpur or Penang?” Then you should answer
which ever one you want. Normally if your transit is not very long, they will automatically check
your luggage the whole way through. Like I had a transit in China last month on the way to and
from Europe. My first trip they asked me where I’d like to pick my luggage up. But the second
time they just checked it all the way to my final destination.
Secondly, if both your flights are with the same airline, then most of the time it’ll be checked
through to the final destination. But if they are different airlines, sometimes you might have to
pick your luggage up and then re-check in.
All in all, just ask at the check in desk – “Where do I pick up my luggage?” and that’ll be your
answer!
