While it is possible to experience an LH surge without ovulation, it is unlikely. A positive LH test combined with other fertile signs like egg white cervical mucus mean ovulation is likely imminent or has already occurred. It is also possible to miss the LH surge if only testing once per day. Ovulation can occur as early as 5-10 days after stopping Clomid, so monitoring with ultrasounds is recommended when taking fertility medications. Getting an LH surge at 6DPO is unusual but not unheard of, and increased cervical mucus during the TWW is a common symptom.

Mandy asks…
Two days of positive lh surge, 2nd cycle being off birth
control…could I have ovulated?
I’ve been off birth control for almost two months now. The first day of my last period was Nov
12, therefor I should have ovulated on the 25th/26th if everything went right. I started taking the
ovulation tests on the 21st. I got a positive result on the 25th, and the 26th. This afternoon I
tested and it wasn’t positive. What I am wondering is if you can have a lh surge and not
ovulate, especially because I ended birth control pills not too long ago. Yesterday I also had
ovulation discharge symptoms, the “egg white” consistency. Today it’s not like that. (I had
unprotected sex on the 20th, 21st, 22nd, 25th, and 26th) Thank you!!
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
While it is possible for your body to gear up for ovulation (with an LH surge) and not actually
ovulate, that is an unlikely scenario.
In med school they always teach not to look for zebras if it looks like a horse, KWIM?
So, while it is possible you didn’t ovulate, don’t assume that is the case. It would be highly
abnormal for you not to ovulate after having an LH surge.

Helen asks…
EWCM + High, soft, open cervex but on OPK no LH surge was
detected?
Can I have all these symptoms yet still not ovulate or did I take the test wrong?
Please help???
Other info: 6 months off of IUD and two healthy children, TTC#3
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
As long as you are seeing EWCM, consider yourself in your fertile period!! I can’t stress that
enough. While it’s possible you just haven’t surged yet, it’s also possible to miss the surge if
you only test once a day. Sometimes your LH surge lasts for less than 24 hours.
Good luck to you!

3. Nancy asks…
Could I be pregnant? I saw the lh surge on Tues, had sex Tues,
Wed and Thurs. Also on Sat night. Today is Fri?
and my left breast hurts. No nausea but slight very very slight cramps but that could be from
lying with my legs up for 20 mins after sex.
Is it possible to get symptoms this early?
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
If you are it may be too early to tell. Only one way to know for sure is to take pregnancy test

4. lh surge question please help:)?
I just took the opk test and I defiantly have two lines so excited but then it dawns on me that I
have been testing like I was suppose to I took clomid and estradiol this month and we are really
trying to conceive but we have been really busy so I have bd since sat. But we promised to do it
tonight please tell me is it possible that I missed my ovulation I haven’t had any of the
other symptoms and according to the calendar I don’t ovulate until the 24th so confused first
time opk testing please help and ***baby dust to us all***
Thanks lol I should be monitering better but we have been trying for so long I’m just glad I’m
not driving myself or dh crazy with it we want some fun back with bding and I was hoping if I
stop trying to control it so much it might happen this month:)
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Two lines with an OPK is not necessarily a positive. Both lines have to be the SAME color.
Throw you calendar away, it’s useless to you, especially on a medicated cycle.
Most women ovulate 5-10 days after their last pill. Sometimes, Clomid can delay ovulation. So
it’s possible you haven’t O’d yet.
You really should be paying more attention seeing that you’re paying for medical assistance. Is
it possible to go in for an ultrasound to see where things are at? Medicated cycles should be
monitored anyway. Clomid has side effects that can be counterproductive to TTC.
Good luck.
ETA—I can understand that, but the cycle you decide to shell out for fertility meds is not the time
to be lax! You don’t want to throw money away either. Now start paying attention! LOL

5. Mary asks…
LH Surge at 6DPO. What does this means?
I ovulated on Feb 3 based on my FF chart. Temps are up and very consistent since 3dpo (major
change was around .03F) Tested positive on OPK until 3dpo then a negative at 4dpo and didn’t
test on 5dpo. I use the strips so I test until they run out due to life spam. Today I tested and
surprise another positive. So what is happening. I have and increase in CM but I’m not paying
to much attention because I don’t want to get my hopes up. I know symptoms at 6dpo are very
rare but what do you think. It is possible to get a positive OPK after ovulation or there is
something wrong with me?
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
I’ve been having increased CM all through out my 2ww. I’m a day late for AF. Nothing but
BFN’s on my HPT’s.
Let me tell you about those OPK’s, I dont believe they work all the time. I never got a positive
on them but I know I ovulated b/c of all the other symptoms. There are many things in your body
that can alter the result. Dont rely on them. I would just do the BD every other day just to make
sure you didnt miss it.
