Water Industry
Following the Oil & gas Sector Upstream, Midstream and Downstream Projects There is Huge
demand of Water for all industrial sectors. So Water Industry has more Projects scope
Importance of Water
Industry is reliant on water for all levels of production. It can be used as a raw
material, solvent, coolant, transport agent, and energy source. According to
Environment Canada's website, many liters of water are used to produce glass,
plastic, along with some fabric components. Fresh water is not just for drinking
anymore.
Industries that produce metals, wood, paper, chemicals, gasoline, oils, and most other
products all use water in some part of their production process. Industry depends on
water, much like agriculture and domestic households depend on water. Industrial
reliance on water makes it essential to preserve water in every aspect possible and
make sure water pollution is kept at minimal levels. This page will focus on
understanding what water means to industry, how much is used during production, and
the negative effects of industrial water use.
Water is vital for humans and their environment. This being so, it is especially worthy of
protection. For this reason, drinking water – procured from groundwater, bank filtrates,
bodies of water or springs close to the Earth’s surface – must be free from harmful
contamination after treatment. Hence, the aim of our engineers in research projects is to
further improve the processes in drinking-water treatment and sustainable resource
protection. So RWE intends to go on helping secure the high quality standards of the
German water sector.

Waste water discharge
The average German consumes 122 litres of drinking water a day: taking a shower, washing
clothes or the dishes. As soon as the water is consumed, it is out of sight. Deep beneath our feet,
under streets and pavements, it finds its way through the drain system to the purification plants.
Waste water treatment
Screenings, sand, biological and chemical impurities – the modern sewage treatment plants of
RWE clean waste water of all undesirable constituents prior to reintroducing it into the water
cycle. The treatment is carried out according to accepted rules of technology and in compliance
with statutory provisions. RWE is continually improving the mechanical, biological and
chemical clarification processes used today.
WATER DISTRIBUTION
Whether you live in a valley or on a mountain – open the tap, and you don't expect a dripping
trickle, but an eternally gushing spring. On Europe's mainland alone, nine million people rely on
distribution network functioning without a glitch – at all times. Thanks to comprehensive
investment in its line network, Germany's water sector can now boast that a mere 7% of the
water is lost en route through leaks in the pipes. In order to maintain this international top value
in the long term, the pipes much be continuously checked to detect any leakage.
The water distribution system provides economical and compatible facilities
that are capable of furnishing sufficient water at suitable pressures. The system
consists of almost 750 miles of underground water mains, five pumping
stations, three ground storage tanks, six elevated storage tanks, over 12,000
valves, over 2,700 fire hydrants, and over 36,000 meters.
After the water is processed at the treatment plants and tested for purity, it is
stored in ground storage tanks or pumped into the water distribution system.
The distribution network is laid out in a continuous looped system to circulate
water and maintain constant system pressure.
WATER MANAGEMENT
Water Utilities Department is responsible for stormwater pollution abatement, water
operations, and wastewater operations in the City, including: providing for adequate,
high quality water supply; treating and distributing potable water; collecting all
wastewaters discharged to sanitary sewer systems; and transporting and treating all
wastewater prior to discharging it into the environment.
Water Industry Offering
Drinking water production
Drinking water can be produced from any natural sources like
groundwater, lakes and rivers (surface waters) or seawater.
Drinking water standards are set by the World Health organisation or by
the European Union.
Drinking water must be free of suspended solids, microorganisms and
toxic chemicals. Mineral concentration recommendation vary from
country to country but most of the minerals have a maximum
concentration recommended to ensure safe, equilibrated and pleasant
water to drink.

Water and Wastewater Treatment
Treating water supplies and wastewater effluent. The industry membrane systems and chemicals
are renowned for their ability to solve even the toughest water and wastewater problems.
Membrane chemicals increase the life of reverse osmosis and other membrane systems. They
also enhance operational efficiency by controlling fouling and scaling. GE's solutions are
suitable for direct filtration processes, multimedia filters and clarifiers, and other gravitational
separation systems.
Wastewater processing and treatment chemicals can increase effluent reuse through clarification,
sludge de-watering, anti-foaming, and odor removal. Specialty polymers, CDPs, and chemicals
remove pollutants, minimize sludge handling and disposal costs, improve effluent quality, and
promote water savings and recycling.
Ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membrane filtration systems —
Allows coal plants to burn lower grade coal and gas turbines to switch to heavy fuel or
crude oil.
Reverse osmosis for brackish water and seawater desalination, industrial process
separation and wastewater reclamation.
Electrolytic membrane separation: electrodeionization (EDI) for ultrapure water,
electrodialysis for industrial separation applications, and electrodialysis reversal (EDR)

Water Usage OverView
Facts & Figures
Total industrial water use in the world is about 22%, with high-income countries using 59%, and
low-income countries using a minuscule 8%. These figures will rise with industrial production.
Annual water volume use by industry is increasing at an enormous rate. Annual water volume
use will most likely increase from 752 km3
/year in 1995 to 1,170 km3
/year by the year 2025. All
figures are according to the website Water Science For Schools.
According to the UN World Water Development Report, some 300-500 million tons of heavy
metals, solvents, toxic sludge, and other wastes accumulate each year from industry, most of
which gets into the freshwater supply. In some developing countries, 70% of industrial wastes
are dumped into untreated waters where they pollute the drinking water. Clearly, there are some
issues concerning freshwater supplies and industry is a major contributor. See more interesting
facts and figures regarding industry and the water supply.
Major Uses
Car washes are a great example of an industry that uses gallons and gallons of water everyday.
People in developed countries use them frequently without really thinking about all of the water
being used. It is the Core countries that use the majority of freshwater in industry, and the United
States leads the way. It is astounding if one thinks how much water is consumed by industry. It is
predicted to represent 24% of the total freshwater withdrawal worldwide by 2025.
Now that one knows some facts about industrial water use, along with its major uses, it is time to
explore some of the concerns regarding freshwater use for industries.
Produced water is a term used in the oil industry to describe water that is produced when oil and gas
are extracted from the ground. Oil and gas reservoirs have a natural water layer (formation water) that
lies under the hydrocarbons. Oil reservoirs frequently contain large volumes of water, while gas
reservoirs tend to have smaller quantities. To achieve maximum oil recovery additional water is often
injected into the reservoirs to help force the oil to the surface. Both the formation water and the
injected water are eventually produced along with the oil and therefore as the field becomes depleted
the produced water content of the oil increases.
Produced Water
Produced water is considered an industrial waste and coal seam gas (CSG) producers are now
required to employ beneficial re-uses for produced water.
The broad management options for re-use are direct injection, environmentally acceptable direct-
use of ―untreated‖ water, or ―treatment‖ to a government-issued standard before disposal or
supply to users.
Bottle/Sarchet Water Production
The production of sachet table water has been very good and profitable business in
which individual would be interested to invest with good management scheme.
Since the introduction of sachet table water in Nigeria, cholera diseases has been
reduced by 70% in the country with good atmosphere.
The demand for sachet water nationwide is much considering the simple hypothesis
that out of every one hundred Nigerians, 70 people drink (pure water) sachet water.
Now, no matter the number of production plants exist in Nigeria cannot cover or meet
the demand of sachet water

Water industry

  • 1. Water Industry Following the Oil & gas Sector Upstream, Midstream and Downstream Projects There is Huge demand of Water for all industrial sectors. So Water Industry has more Projects scope Importance of Water Industry is reliant on water for all levels of production. It can be used as a raw material, solvent, coolant, transport agent, and energy source. According to Environment Canada's website, many liters of water are used to produce glass, plastic, along with some fabric components. Fresh water is not just for drinking anymore. Industries that produce metals, wood, paper, chemicals, gasoline, oils, and most other products all use water in some part of their production process. Industry depends on water, much like agriculture and domestic households depend on water. Industrial reliance on water makes it essential to preserve water in every aspect possible and make sure water pollution is kept at minimal levels. This page will focus on understanding what water means to industry, how much is used during production, and the negative effects of industrial water use. Water is vital for humans and their environment. This being so, it is especially worthy of protection. For this reason, drinking water – procured from groundwater, bank filtrates, bodies of water or springs close to the Earth’s surface – must be free from harmful contamination after treatment. Hence, the aim of our engineers in research projects is to further improve the processes in drinking-water treatment and sustainable resource protection. So RWE intends to go on helping secure the high quality standards of the German water sector. Water Industry Water industry companies in the complete water cycle. From collection, through purification and transportation to distribution and re-use, we are ready to serve you with enhanced, efficient and reliable product and solutions. As soon as the water is consumed, it is out of sight. Deep beneath our feet, under streets and pavements, it finds its way through the drain system to the purification plants. Waste water treatment Screenings, sand, biological and chemical impurities – the modern sewage treatment plants of RWE clean waste water of all undesirable constituents prior to reintroducing it into the water cycle. The treatment is carried out according to accepted rules of technology and in compliance with statutory provisions. RWE is continually improving the mechanical, biological and chemical clarification processes used today.
  • 4. WATER DISTRIBUTION Whether you live in a valley or on a mountain – open the tap, and you don't expect a dripping trickle, but an eternally gushing spring. On Europe's mainland alone, nine million people rely on distribution network functioning without a glitch – at all times. Thanks to comprehensive investment in its line network, Germany's water sector can now boast that a mere 7% of the water is lost en route through leaks in the pipes. In order to maintain this international top value in the long term, the pipes much be continuously checked to detect any leakage. The water distribution system provides economical and compatible facilities that are capable of furnishing sufficient water at suitable pressures. The system consists of almost 750 miles of underground water mains, five pumping stations, three ground storage tanks, six elevated storage tanks, over 12,000 valves, over 2,700 fire hydrants, and over 36,000 meters. After the water is processed at the treatment plants and tested for purity, it is stored in ground storage tanks or pumped into the water distribution system. The distribution network is laid out in a continuous looped system to circulate water and maintain constant system pressure. WATER MANAGEMENT Water Utilities Department is responsible for stormwater pollution abatement, water operations, and wastewater operations in the City, including: providing for adequate, high quality water supply; treating and distributing potable water; collecting all wastewaters discharged to sanitary sewer systems; and transporting and treating all wastewater prior to discharging it into the environment. Water Industry Offering Drinking water production Drinking water can be produced from any natural sources like groundwater, lakes and rivers (surface waters) or seawater. Drinking water standards are set by the World Health organisation or by the European Union. Drinking water must be free of suspended solids, microorganisms and toxic chemicals. Mineral concentration recommendation vary from country to country but most of the minerals have a maximum concentration recommended to ensure safe, equilibrated and pleasant

  • 9. High voltage products and systems Transformers Instrumentation and Analytical Water Usage OverView Facts & Figures Total industrial water use in the world is about 22%, with high-income countries using 59%, and low-income countries using a minuscule 8%. These figures will rise with industrial production. Annual water volume use by industry is increasing at an enormous rate. Annual water volume use will most likely increase from 752 km3 /year in 1995 to 1,170 km3 /year by the year 2025. All figures are according to the website Water Science For Schools. According to the UN World Water Development Report, some 300-500 million tons of heavy metals, solvents, toxic sludge, and other wastes accumulate each year from industry, most of which gets into the freshwater supply. In some developing countries, 70% of industrial wastes are dumped into untreated waters where they pollute the drinking water. Clearly, there are some issues concerning freshwater supplies and industry is a major contributor. See more interesting facts and figures regarding industry and the water supply. Major Uses
  • 10. Car washes are a great example of an industry that uses gallons and gallons of water everyday. People in developed countries use them frequently without really thinking about all of the water being used. It is the Core countries that use the majority of freshwater in industry, and the United States leads the way. It is astounding if one thinks how much water is consumed by industry. It is predicted to represent 24% of the total freshwater withdrawal worldwide by 2025. Now that one knows some facts about industrial water use, along with its major uses, it is time to explore some of the concerns regarding freshwater use for industries. Produced water is a term used in the oil industry to describe water that is produced when oil and gas are extracted from the ground. Oil and gas reservoirs have a natural water layer (formation water) that lies under the hydrocarbons. Oil reservoirs frequently contain large volumes of water, while gas reservoirs tend to have smaller quantities. To achieve maximum oil recovery additional water is often injected into the reservoirs to help force the oil to the surface. Both the formation water and the injected water are eventually produced along with the oil and therefore as the field becomes depleted the produced water content of the oil increases. Produced Water Produced water is considered an industrial waste and coal seam gas (CSG) producers are now required to employ beneficial re-uses for produced water. The broad management options for re-use are direct injection, environmentally acceptable direct- use of ―untreated‖ water, or ―treatment‖ to a government-issued standard before disposal or supply to users. Bottle/Sarchet Water Production The production of sachet table water has been very good and profitable business in which individual would be interested to invest with good management scheme. Since the introduction of sachet table water in Nigeria, cholera diseases has been reduced by 70% in the country with good atmosphere. The demand for sachet water nationwide is much considering the simple hypothesis that out of every one hundred Nigerians, 70 people drink (pure water) sachet water. Now, no matter the number of production plants exist in Nigeria cannot cover or meet the demand of sachet water
