1. Kush K. Shah Bio
Kush Shah is Manager of Global Electrification Quality Group at General Motors (GM) which is
responsible for hybrid powertrain programs quality - from inception to field performance. Kush
is also global quality functional lead for GM Learning that is responsible for coordinating quality
training globally within GM. During his 27 years at GM, he has held various leadership positions
in manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, R&D and quality organizations. He has received
GM Chairman’s Honor Award, Corporate People Make Quality Happen Award and Quality
Driver Award. He has co-authored U.S. Patent and received GM Trade Secret Award. He has
lead an enterprise-wide deployment of Shainin Red X problem solving methodology that resulted
in training of hundreds of employees – from leadership to shop floor, over hundred certifications,
and millions of dollars in savings/cost avoidance.
Kush Shah has been involved in the American Society for Quality (ASQ) for over 20 years,
holding numerous leadership positions. He is the Chair for the global ASQ Automotive Division.
He has served as the Chair of ASQ Detroit Section 2007-2009. Kush is also the primary global
contact for GM’s ASQ Enterprise membership. He has received Distinguished Service Award
from ASQ Detroit Section and Judson C. Jarvis Award from ASQ Automotive Division for his
leadership and contribution to these organizations. He also received the ASQ Testimonial Award
for his outstanding leadership and distinguished service to the Society. Mr. Shah has been
recently elected by ASQ Board of Directors as an ASQ Fellow as the recognition of expertise
and outstanding contributions to the field of quality.
He is ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), Certified Manager of Quality and
Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Biomedical
Auditor (CBA), and Certified Quality Engineer (CQE). Recently Kush was selected to
participate in Certified Master Black Belt exam development process for ASQ.
Kush has trained hundreds of quality professionals in Quality Management and Lean Six Sigma.
He has been speaker at many conferences including 2010 ASQ World Conference on Quality
and Improvement, 2010 Business Innovations Conference and the first Sino-America Quality
Summit in Szenchen, China. His contribution to improve healthcare quality has been featured in
Detroit Free Press newspaper and various magazines.
Kush holds Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan – Ann
Arbor.
