Overview
IBM InfoSphere Classification Module V8.7 is designed to help users tame the
explosion of unstructured content with content-enabled applications, while helping
them spend less to manage that content.
V8.7 of the InfoSphere Classification Module furthers this goal with numerous
improvements:
• Extension of the Classification Center application to support the classification and
review of content residing in IBM Content Manager (CM8) and on file systems
• Support for improved integration with IBM Content Collector, unlocking the full
power of the InfoSphere Classification Module analysis methods
• Sample projects and tutorials for faster start
IBM United States Software Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 1
209-234
2. • New API callout for adding your own classification methods and external
validations
• Full support of regular expression syntax for enhanced pattern matching and
extraction
New applications aim to increase revenue, improve productivity, reduce risk, and
generally cut costs by getting more use from content. They incur new productivity
costs with every manual classification task placed on the end user. These small
costs can snowball to hundreds of thousands of dollars every year, even for a mid-
sized organization, stifling the return on investment (ROI) on these initiatives and
distracting employees from their key responsibilities.
The InfoSphere Classification Module shifts the intelligence and cost burden away
from employees by helping you to automate content-centric, daily categorization
decisions via analysis of the full text of documents and e-mails. Derive insight
from your content and make consistent, accurate decisions about your content by
combining and layering multiple methods of analysis (ranging from simple rules to
entity extraction to learn by example approaches).
Advanced classification helps to derive more value from your content with
fewer resources. Advanced content classification can help you to cut costs while
simultaneously accelerating the rate at which new content-enabled applications
harness the explosion of unstructured content and provides returns on Enterprise
Content Management (ECM) investment.
Key prerequisites
Refer to the Hardware requirements and Software requirements sections for details.
Planned availability dates
August 20, 2009: Electronic software delivery

Description
IBM InfoSphere Classification Module can be used as a free-standing service, but
operates in tandem with many elements of the IBM Enterprise Content Management
(ECM) portfolio. The InfoSphere Classification Module is integrated directly with
various elements of the IBM ECM portfolio, including IBM Content Collector,
IBM FileNet® Records Manager, and IBM OmniFind Enterprise Edition, as well as
TM
IBM ECM repositories. Many of the new developments for this release have been
created with these integration points in mind, in order to maximize the savings and
automation IBM ECM customers can realize from deploying automated classification.
IBM InfoSphere Classification Module helps you automate the process of categorizing
your content by incorporating the full text of your content into its analysis. As
part of the IBM ECM architecture, the Classification Module helps you save time,
get more content under management faster, and accelerate the return on your
investment in ECM.
IBM InfoSphere Content Collector
Significant improvements are delivered to its core product to facilitate the use of the
Decision Plan functionality by IBM Content Collector. Introduced in V8.6 (released in
2008), Decision Plans provide for two major elements of classification functionality:
• The ability to execute rules-based analysis for the purpose of classification of
content.
IBM United States Software Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2
209-234
3. • The ability to combine these individual rule-based analyses with one or more
context-based classification analyses (for example, classification by comparing the
content against training sets for each category).
V8.7 provides functionality that will allow future versions of IBM Content Collector
to efficiently utilize Decision Plans. With Decision Plans, Content Collector users of
the Classification Module will have access to a full range of classification analysis
methods, improving classification accuracy in content collection and archival
scenarios.
Decision Plan improvements
In V8.7, Decision Plans themselves have been enhanced as well.
First, the pattern matching functionality has been enhanced. In prior versions,
Classification Module customers have been able to define patterns for identification
and subsequent extraction from long form text. This pattern extraction capability
is one of the rules-based methods of classification provided by Decision Plans to
identify and extract patterns such as account identifiers and customer identifiers.
In V8.7, users of the Classification Workbench can define these pattern matching
and extraction rules using the full, standard, regular expression syntax with which IT
users are familiar and trained.
The Decision Plan functionality has been modified such that it is now extensible.
Do you require a custom method of classification analysis in addition to those
provided by the InfoSphere Classification Module? Or do you want the InfoSphere
Classification Module to validate its assignments with an outside, trusted source
of information? The open API now included with the InfoSphere Classification
Module allows for such customizations by IBM customers and Business Partners.
The Decision Plan functionality now provides call-outs to allow for custom programs
to analyze the filtered documents and any categories already defined by the
Classification Module.
Classification Center: IBM Content Manager and File Systems
The Classification Center is an application in InfoSphere Classification Module
that monitors and executes classification of content in the repositories. Further,
the Classification Center application provides the ability to review and modify the
classifications assigned by the InfoSphere Classification Module. This review process
is one avenue for providing real-time feedback to the Classification Module train-by-
example approach.
In V8.7 of the InfoSphere Classification Module, the Classification Center application
now can operate directly against IBM Content Manager as well as IBM FileNet
Content Manager. The full breadth of Classification Center functionality available to
IBM FileNet Content Manager users is now available to IBM Content Manager users
as well.
With Classification Center application running against IBM Content Manager,
the Classification Center can also now monitor file system folders and execute
classification for content on a file system. InfoSphere Classification Module can
reorganize and reassign content to new folders on your file system based on its
analysis and categorization of the information. These file system-based capabilities
are especially useful for early explorations and demonstrations of the products
classification analysis methods.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)
PVU is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. PVU entitlements
are based on processor families (vendors and brands). A Proof of Entitlement
(PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on the level or
tier of all processor cores activated and available for use by the program on the
server. Some programs allow licensing to less than the full capacity of the server's
activated processor cores, sometimes referred to as sub-capacity licensing. For
programs which offer sub-capacity licensing, if a server is partitioned utilizing
eligible partitioning technologies, then a PoE must be obtained for the appropriate
number of PVUs based on all activated processor cores available for use in each
partition where the program runs or is managed by the program. Refer to the
International Passport Advantage Agreement Attachment for Sub-Capacity Terms
or the program's License Information to determine applicable sub-capacity terms.
The PVU entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged,
interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another program.
For general overview of PVUs for processor families (vendors and brands), go to
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/
pvu_licensing_for_customers.html
To calculate the exact PVU entitlements required for the program, go to
https://www-112.ibm.com/software/howtobuy/passportadvantage/
valueunitcalculator/vucalc.wss
User Value Unit (UVU)
UVU is the metric by which this program is licensed. UVU entitlements are based
on the number of users for the given program. A PoE must be obtained for the
appropriate number of UVUs required for your environment as defined by the
specific program terms. The UVU entitlements are specific to the program and may
not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with UVU entitlements of another
software program. UVU licensing offers price benefits for customers by enabling
a lower cost of incremental growth of resources. To understand these benefits of
UVU licensing, and to determine how many UVUs to obtain for the program, please
contact your IBM representative.
A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements, which is
based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given
program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly
used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs,
there are other designated measurements such as users or resources which
IBM United States Software Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 9
209-234
10. may include servers, client devices, and messages. The number of value unit
entitlements required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in
your environment and must be obtained from a value unit table. You must obtain a
PoE for the calculated number of value unit entitlements for your implementation.
The value unit entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged,
interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.
At all times, the number of users accessing the program or any component of
the program in any manner, directly or indirectly (for instance, via a multiplexing
program, device, or application server) or through any other means must not exceed
your entitlement to use the program, as indicated on the applicable PoEs.
Authorized (AUVU): For selectively licensing internal users within your organization.
The number of AUVUs you require is based on the number of authorized users
within your organization that may access the program and/or whose user content
may be analyzed using the program in any manner at set forth in the AUVU license
conversion table.
External (XUVU): For licensing users who are external to your organization whose
user content is analyzed using the program. The number of XUVUs you require is
based on the number of external users whose user content may be analyzed using
the program in any manner as set forth in the External User Value Unit license
conversion table.
Employee (EUVU): For collectively licensing all of your internal users. The number of
EUVUs you require will be based on the number of employees in your Enterprise as
set forth in the EUVU license conversion table.
Enterprise: An Enterprise includes any legal entity that, by more than 50%, owns, is
owned by, or is under common ownership with You. You are the legal entity that is
authorized to execute and administer this agreement on behalf of an enterprise. You
need not be a company and may be the entire enterprise.
