5. Your journal entry should explain that green plants are able to take the energy from the sun and convert it into sugars that are then used as energy by all other living things. This process is called photosynthesis.
6. Carbon Dioxide +Water+Chlorophyll+Sunlight = Oxygen+Sugar CO 2 +H 2 O+Chlorophyll+Energy = O 2 +Sugar Carbon dioxide enters the leaf and combines with stored energy in the chloroplasts through a chemical reaction to produce a simple sugar. Photosynthesis can be described in all of these ways.
7. Look at the paper shapes attached to the leaves of this plant. What essential thing are the leaves being deprived of? What will these leaves look like in a few weeks? Answer in your journal.
8. After a few weeks, the areas of the leaves that were covered will be light green, or even completely white. In order for photosynthesis to take place, green leaves need the sunlight. End
