Water resources in Spain face challenges from floods, droughts, and an imbalance between supply and demand. Reservoirs store rainwater but overuse of groundwater in coastal areas has led to salination of some wells. Northern Spain has an oceanic climate with frequent rain while southern areas have an extreme Mediterranean climate with high desertification and drought. Managing water resources successfully requires improving efficiency, avoiding contamination, sharing water fairly, and introducing new recycling technologies like desalination plants being built in the Comunidad Valenciana region to increase resources.
