Sample Introduction
               In the poem, Grape Sherbet, by Rita Dove, we read about a women’s memory of her

        father. In the poem, she describes the special desert that her father made when she was a

        young girl. As she recalled this memory, she was standing by her father’s grave. The poet used

        the poetry devices imagery and figurative langue in her poem.
Sample Body paragraph

EXAMPLE1
       In stanza 2, line 2, Rothke used imagery. The speaker stated that the pots,

“…slid from the kitchen shelf.” In this line, the poet attempts to convey the sense

of hearing. The reader is to imagine the sound of the pans crashing to the ground

as the father dances with his son. This image is consistent with the other images

that are concerning as the drunk father plays rough with his son.
