1. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION
MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT AND WHY?
2. WHAT IS DISTRIBUTION?
For the type of distribution we are looking at there are two main areas we will
be looking in to. The first being the physical chain of distribution such as
film reel to DVD to lorry to shops. For this side of distribution we looked in
to the scale we would be looking at for the audience of our film. For example
as our film is a low budget film made on a small scale we wouldn’t be looking
at worldwide mass distribution and we would be looking for a company that
would distribute on this small scale. For such an independent film we would
be looking at distributing the film to 25 to 50 cinemas throughout the UK.
3. WHAT IS DISTRIBUTION
CONTINUED
The other side of distribution would be advertising, as our film is quite a
small independent film we would be looking into advertising via social
networking and viral marketing. One of our main interests would be to
generate interest throughout social networking for example a competition to
advertise and entice students. If we had a large enough budget we could send
out small scale posters to universities and colleges.
4. WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED IN
OUR FILM?
To distribute our film we would be looking at
companies that focus mainly on UK based film
production companies. For example Metrodome and
Optimum releasing who have released films such as
the awakening. I think we would focus mainly on the
Optimum releasing/ Studio Canal UK company
because they are the most well known which tells me
that they are very good at making films well
known, also because they are well known for
distributing independent films from within the UK.
We have chosen to aim at a UK based distribution
company because we think that our film would have a
mainly UK based audience. We think this because all
of our target audience research has been UK based
and also because our film is based in a small English
town which we don’t think would accumulate much
interest among a global market.
5. WHAT AUDIENCE DOES OUR
FILM APPEAL TO?
Our basic target audience was mixed
gender aged between 16 and 24.
However looking at a larger scale
target audience we are basing our
film towards a purely UK market as
we don’t think that the film would
generate much interest in a global
market. We think this purely because
of the scale of the film for example
the characters and the area in which
it has been set. Our film is a thriller
which is why we have targeted it ad a
younger audience as we think that
they would be most interested in an
edgy film.
6. MARKETING STRATEGIES
Our marketing technique would match the
film and be on a small scale with a low
budget. We would look in to focusing
mainly on social networking and viral
advertising. For example Facebook
competitions and viral videos on youtube.
By creating a Facebook competition we
could generate a lot of interest among
colleges and universitites. If we had
enough money in the budget we would
also be interested in making small scale
posters that could be distributed to
colleges and uni’s around the country. The
posters could include pictures of each of
the main characters and screen grabs from
the short part of the film that we have
already made.
