The objectives of this market research report are to describe the state of the Russian market of
glass food and beverage packaging and to provide relevant information on the volume of
production, exports, imports, consumption and market conditions, changes that occurred in 2011,
as well as to build a forecast of the industry in the medium term period up to 2017.
Pre-crisis, the development of the glass food and beverage packaging market moved consistently
upwards with growth rates of 126% in 2006, 118% in 2007 and 113% in 2008. In 2009, however,
the growth stalled as consumers became more frugal with their purchases, which was reflected in
the production of products in glass packaging. In 2010-2011. there was an increase in the
consumption of glass by 12% and 1% respectively, but the market has still not attained its pre-
crisis levels.
Starting in July 2012, Russia will ban the use of recycled containers for beer, alcoholic beverages
and food products, as well as considering a draft law banning PET for beer, food, glass containers.
According to experts, these policies are expected to increase the consumption of glass for foods
and beverages.
