The City of Cape Town has taken a leadership role in promoting responsible tourism in the destination. Over the past decade, the city has adopted responsible tourism policies and action plans, launched awareness and training initiatives, and developed tools and resources to support the industry in adopting responsible practices. Key accomplishments include signing a responsible tourism charter with industry partners, establishing a steering committee, and developing standards and guidelines to guide sustainable tourism development. The city utilizes its influence through various "levers" such as planning, regulations, and partnerships to promote responsible tourism and improve quality of life for residents.
