1. The spiritual gift of teaching/teacher Spiritual gift series By DJ Sutton III Part 4
2. Opening statement Have you been called to teach, by the holy spirit? And do you think its your true spiritual gift? As we go through this study please take notes on what you learned and personal notes on how you feel about this spiritual gift. Also write down if you ever felt God calling you to do this. Keep all notes for letter on. Lets open with a prayer
3. Opening prayer Lord you have shown us you mercy through chaos, now we ask you to help us find our spiritual gifts and help us learn about other spiritual gifts. We thank you for your continued guidance Lord. Amen.
5. “ And a certain Jew named A-pol’los, born at Al-ex-an’dri-a, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Eph’e-sus. This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when A’qui-la and Pris-cil’la had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
6. And when he was disposed to pass into A-cha’ia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace: For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Je’sus was Christ.” ( Acts 18:24-28, KJV)
7. “ Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.” (Romans 12: 6-8, KJV)
8. “ And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.” ( 1 Corinthians 12:28-31, KJV)
9. “ And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
10. That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of
11. every part, maketh increase of the body unto edifying of itself in love.” ( Ephesians 4:11-16, KJV)
12. “ For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” (Hebrews 5:12-14, KJV)
14. Acts give us a good look at some that have the gift of teaching. The rule of a teacher according to the scripture was to teach people about the gospel in the church they were serving. The life application bible commentary says that teachers and ministers are believed to be the same thing. I don’t fully agree with this because teachers are the ones that teach at Sunday school, seminaries, divinity schools, and possible else where. The rule of a minister is different (you will see how when we get to that spiritual gift).
15. Closing prayer We thank you Lord for your word. We ask that you continue helping us learn more, so that we can become better Christians. In the name of your son Jesus Christ. Amen.
